Any Good Radio Station ?

Post by jsr »

Hi everybody

I am a fan of talk shows & news analysis in radio. I used to be a regular
NPR listener while in US. I have scanned thru all the FM stations in chennai
and all of them play only cinema songs (most of which I dont like)

Whats the alternative. I have about 40 KM daily commute in chennai.
I would love to listen to talk shows & news analysis during commute to &
from work.

Any suggestions.

I was about to say subscribe to worldspace radio (where there is NPR worldwide) and then I read for listening in car. Sorry I can't think of any thing. Does All India Radio Chennai broadcasts through FM also ?

The following solution requires additional steps for commute but it is a good alternative if you listen to radio at home.

Roku R1000 is a radio that can tack on to your wifi and play thousands of internet radios (including well known stations such as BBC, CNN etc). It doesn't need to be connected to anything except the power supply. You can also play your entire collection of mp3, wma, aac files stored in your computer or media player.

It also has regular AM/FM, snooze etc.

The major issue with WorldSpace (apart from not being playable in a car) is that the choice is very limited.

One option is to record from Roku or an internet station on your PC to SD card (which the radio supports) and listen later through car radio. THere are many systems in the market which have USB ports.

Is there a business opportunity to start an FM station with only talk shows/news analysis/finance etc.

rmd5464,

Indian broadcasting laws prohibit radio stations from doing talkshows or news analysis.

Thanks for all your reply.
After exploring various options I have found a way.
This needs some effort though.
My car audio system does'nt have USB drive support.
I can download some of the NPR shows as an mp3 file & burn it into a rewriteable cd & play it.

I will copy the files once a week may be and listen to it.

Today was the first day and I did enjoy the ride from home and looking forward to the return trip !

Thats what I thought too, get an IPOD and subscribe to podcasts.
of course i never listen to npr, cnn or cspan etc. they are too left leaning and socialist in nature. I like more conservative talk shows.

Many of the US AM stations stream the shows live also and also can be downloaded. But then they may become out of context in india. have you tried books on CD etc.
