IS it a decent offer for Pune ? I am in the ERP space?
Also can someone povide me information how mc it will cost to rent a 2/3 BD apartmnt in Pune near Rajiv Gandhi IT park (SEZ).
I thought it was better to take this oppurtunity rather than waiting for ever to plan in terms of movin back.

I think your CTC is very competitive for your experience/background even by bangalore standards. If you bring any niche domain experience/skill in your ERP work that the employer really needs, you can negotiate more.

Which ERP do you work on. Rates are different depending on ERP and module :).

You have got a very good offer, Congratulations,
you should be able to get 2 bedroom flat in Aundh @ Rs. 12-15000 approximately,
there are very good societies in Aundh that have amenities that would suit US lifestyle.

Did you mean your assured gross salary is 12.5 L annual? Or was that gross 1.25L/month?
In either case, those are good numbers. I used the following formula in my case:
take home after taxes per year= CTC*.9*.85 = 0.76*CTC.
Gross before taxes, etc. = 0.9 CTC, after tax = 0.85 (pre-tax)
Note: this includes allowances
This was very true in my case; in fact, with the revised tax rates per new budget, it will go upto 0.87*CTC next tax year. And this is in Pune also.
You should ask for a detailed salary breakdown for sure before you sign the dotted line. What about relocation?
The other company I had interviewed with offered a CTC of 5.5 L in Mumbai, and the gross pre-tax worked out to 3.6L!!! The salary breakdown had ridiculous things like
Estimated average bonus Rs. 45,000
Club allowance Rs. 1,200
Vehicle allowance Rs. 30,000
(Deduct for company transportation - Rs. 24,000)
Also, follow up with an email confirming your compensation terms that you discussed over the phone. And I am sure you will read the offer letter line by line. In my case, the offer "letter" was seven pages long, and they conveniently forgot to add the line item for relocation...I had them revise it before signing it.
Btw: great offer, how old are your kids?

Hi Ord2png,
I have been in Pune now for last 4 weeks. I owe this forum a first hand information report. I plan to share it soon.
Life has been very busy, and work takes all of the time. There doesn’t seem to be any concept of personal time in India with people calling you on phone for every small thing even after 10 PM :)-
I am still in the process for getting wired for Internet etc at home.
My Gross is about 1.35 L per month. I have not collected the pay check yet. Will be getting one this week. Didn’t have the PAN number and nothing moves ahead in India without PAN in terms of finances
My Kids are 3+ & 2+. All the family is still in US.
Even though I had indicated clear preference for very limited travel my gut feeling now is I will have to do a fair bit of traveling. The biggest challenge I see for Indian companies is communication. I am definitely surprised by the lack of communication skills at mid manager level.

It is interesting you mention some of the things about the working style of the people that I noticed also.. people are unwilling to take charge or figure out things by themselves, even though they can. I could go on and on about this had this been the right thread for that topic :-)
One point to be noted: my cousin, who R2I'd from Boston to Pune in Dec 2006 (he works as a QA lead for a s/w dev. firm), mentioned that overall, the work is relatively stress free (I think this has been echoed by some others in this forum). At 33 years, he is the seniormost person in his group, he is at work from 10 AM-6 PM, and works from home once a week because he and his wife are expecting their first child.
I myself shocked everyone at work today by leaving the office at 6:03 PM, since I had pretty much finished everything I was supposed to do, and also covered for someone else. I did not realize how lack of internet access at work can make me so efficient :-)
Re: paycheck: I will not be getting paid till end of April because the employer has a direct deposit agreement with HSBC who are aggravating me with each passing day. And HR at my office is as useless as HR gets.
I will be posting that story separately in my R2I diary. Good luck with the internet access and PAN. I am yet to get my PAN, so I am hurting as well..
