I am seeing lots of desi advertisements claiming that they can train people in 4-6 weeks period in QA/Java/.NET and help in IT job placements. They're charging between $600 to $1000 for a 4-6 weeks training and some are almost guranteeing good jobs. To me getting a job in a span of 2-3 months with $25- $35 an hour income sounds too good to be true.
BTW, I have a green card, my children go to elementary school as a result I have some spare time and I am looking to re-start my career.
I am sure there are many, many IT folks on this forum and hopefully you folks can help answer my questions:
1) I am a basically a commerce graduate and wonder how practical is it to pick Java/.NET and be able to get a programming job with these desi IT trainings ? BTW, I am Java certified but that was more than 7 years back and I am not sure how things have changed since.
2) I hear .NET is relatively easier compred to Java. Can someone validate this ?
2) With almost all desi hosewives jumping into QA testing, is there enough demand ? I hear that QA is lot more easier than programming but is there enough demand ??
3) Finally, on the desi IT training: Is there any catch here/are we missing something obvious?! I find it hard to believe that with just 4-6 weeks training, $600-$1000 investment you'll get a high paying job and that too in a span of a few weeks/months.
I would appreciate any inputs you folks can provide. :)

It did work for two.... Back in late 90s, I know of two persons who were able to secure jobs. One was a commerce graduate and the other had literature degree - both from India. The person with commerce degree was on H4 and other had green card (family based). They attended one or two entry level computer basics course from a local junior college. Then they atteneded a 8 week, weekends-only, course on Oracle development, conducted by a desi working on H1 visa. After the training, they sent out close to 1000 resumes in a month to Oracle jobs all over the US. One got a job in NJ and another locally. The person who spent just over two months in NJ, got a job locally later and the family reunited again. For that two months, the husband managed both kids, and younger was 6 months old. Since then they moved on to other jobs (now one works for a healthcare HMO in a laid back office and the other works for a county, again laid back work culture). They are still working and their kids are now going to elementary school, and they seem to be happy. Their focused effort with calculated risk really paid off.
I know of another person who voluntered at a local non-profit healtcare institute, and was sponsored for H1 after two years (of $0 salary) and a job doing Oracle apps. She didn't have any kids back then and the job location was on the way to her husband's office. But, she didn't take any training course. Her patience really paid off. Her job pays 403, pension, and yearly bonus, free daycare, 4 weeks vacation in first year, etc.
