I have been reading this forum for few weeks now and all you guys are doing terrific job. It's amazing to see so much information shared by people to make others life easier.
Here is a question for all who returned ( or returning ) to india with a job. How important is your current title in US company when you find a job in India ? Do they just look at your title or your actual work ? Currently, I am doing a management job but do not have "Manager" word in my title. Will it affect chances of landing manager's job ? Can I still land a Sr. Manager position ? Job descriptions for Manager/Sr. Manager positions I looked at on Naukri.com matches with my current job duties.
Thanks in advance...

Surprise to see no resonse yet...
I was really hoping that someone can shed light on this. I don't like to bluff on resume so I am against changing the title to "Manager".

nemajasine,
Job title should not matter as long as you can show that you did mangement work in an interview and prove that you will be a good fit for the position you are looking for. Also you can put the nature of your work highlighing the management part in your resume preferably in the first page so that it catches attention.

There are lot of resumes floating around and hiring managers typically spend 30 secs to get snapshot of the each resume. With my personal experience I first look at qualification and quick background on current job. That's it. Further reading on the resume depends on above two. So if you are serious about finding a good job, first make sure that you have current tile and put the role info.
Some thing like "Hands on Project Manager" then start with usual description.

Thanks sunr2i, I like your suggestion. ILuvHyd, as you said, I have highlighted my management experience on first page in summary section.

Agree with Sunr2i. Most companies have titles and roles and they may differ widely...for example Sr System Analyst (title) and Project Lead (role). Its better for you to mention role rather then title in the resume and follow up with details to back it up.
Titles matters as it gives an initial impression and lack of a better one can jeopardize the chances too. The idea is to not avoid mentioning the title if you dont have a fancy one and mention role instead. You will have enough time to convince them with your profile after that.

Good point ahirman. Different companies have different tiltes for same role/job description. Sometimes even within a same comapny, I have seen that people have different tiles for similar job responsibilities. I guess, there are lot of factors which determines the title. Sometimes it's negotiation skills, sometimes it's you might be only individual possesing domain knowledge required by comapny and they have to retain you or sometimes it could be because your specific group/dept have growth comapred to others. Sometimes it could be a reward for no. of years you work for the company.
