why women talk so much?

Today i had most horrible day at work,Attended a workshop with few colleagues some of them were female variety...they yapped so much all day..non stop..something or other...man what a nightmare..why the hell women talk so much????...unimportant.Why cant they sense that person on the other end is just not interested in whatever they are saying...why keeping quite is so difficult ...whats wrong with them???????

Are there any reliable studies that show the average women talks more than the average man?

If so, is it context, age and topic dependent, and does it have to do with genetics/brain?

Or is it the case that some women/men like to talk about things that some men/women are not that interested in?

There is no such things as 'talkometer' to count words spoken by an individual but I am pretty sure that an average man speaks more words than average women.

Remember our college days when we used to get together with our friends at 'chowk' and continued to talk about girls and politics until late in the night?

Even now in a potluck parties men debate on strange topics for hours (after a few drinks) while women keep the talk meaningful....of course, next morning wives take charge and chastise you about the sermons you gave the previous night...while you listen as if you are the man of few words :-)

The women folk in my life think I'm a great listener. Coz I show a lot of interest and nod my head sagely when they are talking. They have no clue that nothing is getting registered in my brain(My wife is catching up on this though). I have developed this knack over the years. Most of the times I think they don't even care if the other person is genuinely listening. They just need to talk. I let them. Just don't try to make sense of everything they say.

What was that saying? Mens minds are like waffles(everything is compartmentalized) and womes minds are like Spaghetti(everything is intertwined).

In the next version (your wife seems to be dangerously close and you need to upgrade soon before you are unsupported :emsmile:), you will be asked to repeat what they just said. I mastered that by having a 2 sentence buffer in my brain (like CPU Registers/L1 Cache). I can exactly repeat what they just told me with giving 100% attention to other interesting tasks like R2IClub :emwink:

A great book to read is 'Men are from Mars and Women are from Venus'. I have read this book several moon years ago... but, If I can re-call one thing, Listen to Women when they talk, however, do NOT provide suggestions. Women needs you to listen... and you are not expected to solve their issues.. Again let me repeat.. all is expected out of you is to Listen... and do not do anything beyond listening....(even if you think you know all the solution that will help the other person in not complaining again)..

Yes, Bill Clintonesque and general democratic bleeding heart "I feel your pain" does it in some situations. Solutions, especially blunt ones, are doomed. The goal is emotional support and understanding and connection and caring, not problem-fixing.

There are other times when wife will want a hero who gets things done - espcially household chores, and times when the damsel is in a crunch. So just being friend all the time wont work. Half the battle is won if one knows when to put on the different caps of friend, lover, play-mate and hero.

One question we always debate in the admin team is why the number of posts or threads by women are not keeping up with the growth of the forum ? :confused:

Now we know the answer. Because in this forum you can't "talk". You have to type. Admin team, pls note the point.:rolleyes:
