What are the current options to reduce HP printer cartridges expense? Generic brand cartridge? Ink refill? Where?
I heard local Costco stores offer some option, but didn't yet check it out.

Costco is a cheaper option to buy cartridges. The universal refill ink etc did not work for me in the past.

If you don't need very high performance printing, I would recommend to buy "Brother" brand printer from Amazon. Cartridges are pretty cheap (especially from non-brand sources) and because there are 4 cartridges, you only need to replace the cartridge that is truly empty.
Costco refills Ink cartridges too (at the photocenter) - They refill, not you. It is an OK option too.

I think the cartridge my printer needs is not available in Costco, though other HP cartridges are.

How about switching to Laser printer. isn't that a cheaper option , if you have lot of printing ?
45 $ toner lasts b/w 1200 pages. which 3 cents per page.

My experience with HP B/W cartridge refilled by costco is good. except that my printer always shows the cartridge as empty, so my only cue to refill is when printouts appear faded. Not so good exp. with color refills. The one I refilled from costco got depleted much faster than usual w/o any heavy color printing.
costco savings on original HP cartridges are around $5 per cartridge IMO.
How to reduce ink cartridge expense
layman;158436I bought a "brother" brand printer from Costco. It is an ink hog. Earlier I had a HP printer and that printer will print black and white printouts if B/W cartridge has ink and the color cartridges didn't have ink. This brother printer is a rip off. Even if one color cartridge is out, the printer will stop printing including the B/W prints. Ink refill is not done for "brother" brands in Walgreen etc. My kids go on a printing spree once the ink is available. Does anyone else have "brother" printer? Do you guys buy new ink cartridges or refill yourself?
I have a Brother all-in-one as well...here are some things that you could do.
Try the "tape trick" listed on many websites (one version is listed here).
Buy non-OEM cartridges online. Typically, you can get a set of 4 of these cartridges for less than $10. This is cheaper than refills.
Switch to a laser printer. You can get a laser (monochrome) all-in-one for abt $100 these days. I ordered one for abt $80, a couple of days ago.
Needless to say -- OEM printer ink is a very expensive item (more expensive than gold, for a given quantity). It's a major rip-off
