Are multiple entries to US allowed using a reentry permit as long as it is valid?
I have a GC, but currently in India and my reentry permit is valid until Oct'2012. But, I'll likely be making a US trip soon..So I'm wondering if my reentry permit will continue to remain valid after the trip (i.e until its actually expires).

Yes. REP allows multiple entries. I have made many trips using REP.
multiple entries using reentry permit ?
A related question to the reentry permit: Are extensions to reentry permit allowed? If yes, what are the chances of it getting approved, if you don't have a house or other strong ties to prove your intent to return to US?

multiple entries using reentry permit ?
While I've made frequent trips to US in the past two years, my attorney advised that if we've made a decision to permanently relocate to India, it is better to surrender GC. I believe there is one more extension possible and the attorney felt reasonably confident of getting it approved, he mentioned it will become increasingly difficult to explain at the port of entry the reason for staying 2+ years outside the country. while the extension might be approved, it might get difficult to state a reasonable case for temporarily staying outside US. So i'm inclining toward surrendering the GC at the US consulate and apply for a business visa for travel.

I went to US for REP extension filing after 2 years just before REP expiry and had to face lot of questions by immigration officials.
But I got REP extension.
iwant2_r2i any idea if a GC holder can be asked to face immigration judge or denied entry if he/she enters US with valid REP? Can you confirm this with your attorney?

I'll ask him about this. one of my European colleague who relocated a few years back was asked at the port of entry to surrender his GC. I don't know anything about immigration judge visit but you may be asked to surrender GC at port of entry.
One other thing that my attorney mentioned is that REP extension filing and finger printing after a few weeks of filing requires physical presence in US. Essentially it is 4-6 week stay or two quick trips to US to reapply and do the finger print.

iwant2_r2i,
Thanks a lot. In order to apply for REP one has to be in USA since biometrics is necessary. So about 6-8 weeks of stay in USA will be necessary.
In an immigration forum I read in POE if an immigration officer thinks that a GC holder
is coming after a long time then he/she is asked to see a immigration judge. If the judge determines that permanent residency requirement is not fulfilled then the GC holder will be asked to
surrender GC and asked to leave US within a certain time frame.
If you still have contact with your European colleague can you find out exactly why he was asked to surrender GC and what happened in POE?
A few important things at POE after a long stay outside US
1. Either owning house or renting a house in USA is important.
2. I have read in immigration forums the plane ticket should end in US. So a round
trip ticket from India can trigger a red flag. iwant2_r2i if you get a chance please ask your attorney about this.
