Never Let me go was an easy read and thought provoking , the characters stay with you.

Enchantress of Florence had an interesting story but I so kept getting lost in all those words :).

What is Never let me go about? Can you surmise quickly?
Echantress of Florence made me get lost too. I had picked up that book on my way to Cusco and the flight was delayed by half a day due to rough weather. I read half of it then and remaining at MachuPicchu. It was kinda very magical, seating in magical place with a equally magical novel with DH shouting from the bottom of his throat if I had come to Machupichhu to read a novel?

Any recommendation on any nonfictional book?

The other most intriguing novel I had read was Memoirs of Geisha. Very engaging and my all time fav is Pride and Prejudice....anyone out here fan of Mr. Darcy?

Oh, that's my favorite too! I have read it several times. I was a fan of Jane Austin.

I was introduced to Jane Austen in my 5th/6th grade and the first book I read was Pride and Prejudice. I liked the portrayal of her lead women characters, having a strong will and mind of their own in those times. Lizzie and Mr Darcy are one of my fav book characters. Mr Darcy is the dream Man for sure....used to at those times, faintly now. Handsome, egostic, rich, gentlemen and caring at the same time....:-)
The few male characters I always adored in Books/movie/tele shows

1) Mr. Darcy of pride and Prejudice
2) Mr. Big of Sex and City
3) Howard Roarke of The Fountainhead
4) Michael Corleone - The God Father
5) Raj of DDLG

Do you gals have any fav. male characters be it book or movies?

I loved the book Memoirs of a Geisha! Just picked it up and happened to love it! You are right Mumbai_2009, it was very intriguing!!

Oh I can't agree with you more on the Howard Roark!! I actually saw so many of my then BF's characteristics in that character ....LOL
And Mr. Big is always soo sleek & chic!
I guess Richard Gere's character of Edward in Pretty Woman will be the one I still adore :-)

I am reading Nora Roberts' Irish Hearts right now...Whatever you read - it is always peaceful to go back to some fiction..pulp...chic-lit...anything!

Just updating what I read recently as it wouldn't fit the MT: Books section very well.

Mommy Wars: Stay-at-Home and Career Moms Face off on Their Choices, Their Lives, Their Families by Leslie Morgan Steiner (Random House, March 2006)
"You can read 25 books by child care experts, and it's still not as valuable as getting in touch with what kind of mom you are and what should you do to take care of your children," says Morgan Steiner. She also says,"Motherhood - we don't have it figured out and then lock into it,". "Every few months, everything changes, and you've got to just roll with it."

My comments: IMO most important reason people (men or women) work is for money to start with and also as life's natural progression after graduation/professional studies but career satisfaction, space to express themselves, their identity,realization that they are recognized beyond the 4 walls of the home, self realization that some of them can be bad parents if they are full time parents etc follow once the money factor is satiated a little bit. Also factors like, only very few in the middle class gain the flexibility to say 'no' to money even after years of working and the need to stay at home would have evaporated by that time due to kids growing up.

One may end up making a choice that could prove to be difficult for the household (working or staying home). For instance, if one chooses to stay home, finances could be stretched thin. If one chooses to work, other familial obligations/child caring might not be met to one's liking and it's always going to be a balancing act for most dual-income couple with kids but when one makes the choice, he/she also needs to remember that flexibility (to go back to work if stay at home fails or if the guilt factor continues to bother new parents, stay at home for few years always exists) is the key and writer re-enforces this view in this book.

It has been a while since I read books(pre kids era) but the one I remember most is Gone with the Wind.
Somehow I like stories interwined with historical events. I like the way Scarlett faces all the challenges
that come her way and also reading about civil war, etc.

I read another book long back, don't remember the title. The time period in the book was around the time
settlers landed in US. Conflict between natives and the settlers was the backdrop.
