Stay at home wife and depression issues

lalander;262178I really don't want her to do any full time job, kids come first. She needs to be there to pick up the kids and help them out

YOU dont want her to work? SO typical of the indian IT worker. You not letting her work is the source of her depression.

It would seem that way for this post. I think the OP also said somewhere that it was their 'combined desicion'. In any case, OP should not influence her with what he wants, as being a 'good wife' she may want to do what he wants. Bottomline, let her decide. If at all possible let her try working for some time- ateast she will then have the reference to compare her life at work and as SAHM.

mn_op;262871Singapore is a great place. One doesn't have to pay much for utilities there.

and how about the salaries in Singapore ? Its always the cost of living that matters more. If you have a high salary, you don't mind paying 'more for utilities'.

modus_vivendi;262598Suddenly thought of this: consider getting a pet. Don't recall mention of one, so assuming you guys don't have one already. Pets are considered to be major stress-busters.

Great suggestion. (For whatever reason, I thought you were anti pets) In any case this is an option explored by very small percentage of desis. Pets/puppies add a new dimension and zest to life. There is also great camaraderie between pet owners. Unconditional love does wonders to life.

OP,

Have you ruled out medical causes for the depression? If not, you should talk to your GP. Conditions like Pituitary/adrenal malfunction, thyroid problems can all cause depression. If they are the cause, it should be fairly easy to fix them with medication. Even otherwise, there are anti-depressant medications which are known to work well. Good luck.
