Movies: The Inception

Post by Gacchu »

Now the FIFA world cup is over, here comes the exciting event of this week.

Why Inception of all of the summer movies?

Just because of the writer/Director: Christopher Nolan.
There is no other good writer/director in the world of movies currently better than him now.
Memento(Ghazini for indian movie buffs), Insomnia, batman, Dark Knight and now inception.
Each one of them very different and very interesting.
Plus there is Leo Dicaprio. There is no other better actor in hollywood now than this fella.
To cap it all there is the music director Hans Zimmer. He can add the 'wow" factor to any movie.

Now the marketing team has gone in full swing creating the hype for this movie.
Look at the biiloards they have come up at NYC

The movie is earning mostly rave reviews ,,MTV says:
[QUOTE]
It happened last winter with "Avatar" and it's happening again with "Inception": a hugely hyped, big-budget thrill-ride hits theaters, pretty much everyone loves it, yet there remain a few critics on the sideline defiantly shouting, "But it's really not that good, people!"

Anyone in the club who already watched it?

What do you suggest Imax or 2D? Planning to watch it this weekend.

No, there is no 3D version of this movie. iMax version too is 2D. In iMax the screen is hugeee, which will fill your entire view (so a better viewing experience). Plus the sound will be amazing (they have like 84 speakers).
But now I probably will NOT go to iMax (after reading below)

[QUOTE]there’s one thing that may keep Inception from looking as spectacular as Nolan’s last IMAX film. Inception was shot using traditional 35mm cameras as opposed to the IMAX cameras used to shoot The Dark Knight. This means the film will have to be upconverted using IMAX DMR technology. There’s always a chance that a digitally remastered version won’t compare to a film that’s a 70mm production, but I doubt Nolan would permit the film to be shown in such a format unless the quality is faultless.

What this means is that the iMax version will NOT have additional imagery per frame (to fill the additional space on the screen). That is, in The Dark Knight, the frame was taller than it was wider (utilizing the full 70mm capability). But in this case, they can't upgrade a 35mm to a 70mm, so they are somehow just increasing the quality of the movie, and sound. Not too much bang for my buck....

But the movie is really amazing...

comeon buddy, I know atleast that much about Imax :) I was under the impression that Nolan shot it specifically for Imax. Looks like it is not, Good. Now I dont have to worry about booking it in advance and standing in line for an hr.

Absolutely Stunning....
Nolan just outclassed himself. He has steadily raised the bar with each of his movies and this is his best so far.

In my opinion Nolan's movies are not about technical wizardry, it is about his unique Script writing skills and briniging it on the screen with his unique moviemaking style.
Good he did not fall for the 3D gimmick which every studio is pushing for now.
