Hyderabad: Manipal Hillside Academy

Post by vishy75 »

Apnavatan;268769We are moving to Hyderabad in June-2010. I know it sounds crazy however due to job situation entire family is moving to Hyderabad.
I have two daughters one in X grade and second one in 4th grade in USA. Both are born and brought up here.
I would like to admission requirements for X grade. Any help I will really appreciate. I searched forum however I could not find specific answer.

Also is it too late to get admission for XI grade in Hyederabad for school year starting from June-2010.

Thanks

You can try Manipal Hillside Academy..I have several friends whose children study at this school. This school previously known as Hillside Academy is now being managed by Manipal Group and has been renamed as Manipal Hillside Academy..Manipal, which has a solid track record in higher education, has now entered school education and runs over 10 schools across the country. My friends have very good things to say about the school especially with the school now being managed by Manipal - very good infra - multimedia based teaching in all classrooms, nice large playground and sports facilities, good teachers and management by Manipal which understands academic excellence..the school offers IB program from prep to grade V and CBSE from VI onwards..Fees are quite reasonable as well.

Hope this helps!

I remember this school when it just started and was called 'Roots'. It was pretty small then but a real good location. More info (from a parents POV) about this school will be appreciated. If this school turns out good.. I would like to keep this at the top of our list due to shorter commute.

suny;355840Cyberabadi:

I think this school was earlier called as Roots and then Hillside academy and now Manipal Hillside academy.
user mk2007 posted detailed reviews earlier so you may want to search.
I think this school may be more expensive than i want to pay. I tried to call them to get fee info they told me to come to campus to get that details which is normal practice. I think they started admission.

Manipal has good reputation in college education field and they aren now entering school education

Suny, Replying to your post in this school specific thread as it might be helpful to others looking for specific info.

I had someone go visit this school last week as they were not willing to give specific seat and fee details over the phone. Looks like they get plenty of calls. I was looking at this school as it will be among the schools with shortest commute whenever we return. Don't know if it will be this year or the next or whenever:-0) With the seat crunch (come Jun/July) it looks like I will end up putting a deposit on some school or the other every year.

Anyway, the fee is under what they are charging in Sreenidhi/Oakridge for CIE/IB Curriculums. Depending on the class the TutionFee+Lunch+Transport is working out to around Rs.1.25+Lakh/Year for Elementary (Class 1-5) + there is always the non refundable fees (don't remember the amount). They have the IB Curriculum only until Class-5 and Class-6 onwards its CBSE. That will be an issue to figure out if the kids can cope with CBSE after being in CIE/IB until class 5 or it would be change of school again if they don't expand on the IB/CIE curriculum to higher grades. The school is still small as they only have one section/class. Each with 25 students max. So, approximately 300 students in the school.

They also have limited sports due to space crunch of being in Jubilee Hills. They have Tennis courts, Basketball, Gym, Practice Cricket Pitch/Nets and a swimming pool is said to be under construction.

It shoudl nto be isse to switch from IB program to CBSE in 6th grade based on discussions i had with many schools/parents. I think we can do this changes any time before 8th grade without too much stress/impact on kid's

Please note that this is an IB Candidate school and not an IB school.

Yes, Its a candidate school and that is a concern. 'What if' they are not approved by IB. I think that is the reason that they are following IB curriculum only until 5th grade. Probably, once approved they might expand to other grades as well. Another current issue is the transition in 6th grade from IB to CBSE.

You are mistaken, Manipal Hillside Academy is an IB PYP authorized School. I have my 2 children studying in the same school. The reason that they have IB till 5th grade is that the school has adopted the IB PYP (Primary Year Programme). Even CBSE curriculum has come up with the similar system. Thus the transition from IB to CBSE is very smooth.

I have 1 child studying at this school. Today on 12/04/2011 at 11:01 AM I got an SMS from the school saying that Manipal Hillside Academy has been awarded IB world school status. It still does not show up on IB's website (http://www.ibo.org/school/)

As of the earlier post Manipal Hillside Academy was not an IB school. On February 24 and 25 they had the IB folks visit the school for authorization. The authorization was expected 2 months after the IB visit.

Adopting the IB curriculum does not make a school an IB school. It has to be authorized by IB which Manipal Hillside Academy has obtained as of today (12/04/2011).
