We decided on R2I this year. In fact my family is back in Bangalore going through school admissions right now. Our plan is my family will shift this year and I will shift next year.
The dilemma I have is my current company has no openings in bangalore. So I will have to leave my job here and search for a new one. I am 50 yrs old. So I am not sure whether I will get another job.
I am thinking of retiring ( or semi retire at least)
My question is
- How to handle the social pressure from your family and relatives if you retire at 50?
- What if I retire and in a year or two I get bored and want to return to work? How will I find work then?
- People who have retired before normal retirement age - How do you spend your time? Do you regret retiring?
- I am not short of hobbies - Marathon running, violin playing, writing short stories on blogs etc. They are interesting when I have a steady job and I do it in my spare time. I don't know if I will enjoy those activities full time
- Don't know if my spouse will like me at home all the time. This will be a new experience for her. My kids love the idea.
- What if in future I have health problems and the current savings are not enough?
So you can see my dilemma. Any advice or experiences would be helpful to soothe my mind.

Dear Kumte, You do have one year to search for a new job (since you are going only next year). So, did you try to get a job, or are just assuming that you will not get one? Are there other companies that do similar work? I am moving next month to Bengaluru and found a job after having lived in the US for 21 years (non IT). So, why not try first before deciding to retire.
Re: social pressure. Do you really care? You are 50 and have presumably had a good life. Who cares what others think? As long as you and your family are happy and you are not hurting anyone!! If you can afford to retire, then all power to you. Enjoy!!
Hobbies cannot be full time activities (they are no longer hobbies then). So it would be great to work while still healthy - keeps mind and body active!!
That is my .02 worth. Others cannot soothe your mind for you - we can only say what we think/experience. Finally, it is what you want and what your family wants. Good luck with the move. It will all work out - because you are in charge of making it work :). Good luck.
