3 Things you do to motivate yourself

Post by KirKS »

Simple question and focused answers appreciated.

When you feel down - be it some work related meeting comment heard, someone criticizing your email, child really sick for days, near ones in ICU, physical pain bringing your energy down, bad news in industry about your company, fight with spouse.. of whatever else.

how do you bring yourself up to your 'normal' self? Can you share up to 3 things that you do to motivate yourself to get back to THE routine?

PS: Let's keep away google links for now. Real life narration is preferred.

1. I always think about those who have less than me. This feeling of 'looking down' instead of 'looking up' is what removes the anxiety in such cases.
2. Sometimes the thought of 'whatever is going to happen, is going to happen and you have very less control on things' should help. This feeling of 'resigning' gives strength as you can then concentrate on trying the best of your efforts instead of worrying.
3. Try for the best and prepare for the worst. Make the best and worst case scenarios in each case and every time. That way, you are always mentally prepared for the worst.

1. Be proactive. Think about what you can do to improve the situation. Don't be worried about something that you have no control over. Focus on things that you can control.
2. when you are back in control, think about what you can do so that such situation can be avoided in future.
3. Remember - if it doesn't kill you it makes you stronger.

The first to get to the bottle, the second shaky one while drinking the bottle, the third in the mind. :-)

OP,
1. I try to meditate with the guided meditation CD I have
2. Do the Sudarshan Kriya if haven't done already during the day.
3. Try to talk to a close friend with a positive outlook, if I think that person can offer any insights. If not, no.
4. I try to understand what led to the low mood, and see if I can do something to correct the situtaion from my side. If there is nothing I can do and if it gets overwhelming, I just surrender (to God)...And this always helps!
5. Listen to the AOL videos on you tube. Lot of times, I land up with something meaningful for the situation I am in. Or else, sometimes I just pick a book that I like (about knowledge/wisdom) and that helps..
6. Last but not the least, take a walk (if kids permit)..:)..and also listen to music that I like..

Sometimes I do only one or two of the above, but in real tough situations beyond my control, 4 always helps!
