BSNL Vs Airtel

Post by pazham »

I have been using BSNL Unlimited plan for Rs 1350 per month. The max speed is 512 KBPs. It sucks. The internet literally crawls every day. Opening my hotmail takes more than a minute.

I am seriously thinking to switch over to Airtel. I am interested in atleast a Mbps unlimited plan. Any recommendations highly appreciated.

please let me know if there are any issues with Airtel?

I am with Airtel with unlimited plan - Rs 899/month. Speed is 512Kbps (I think) but it is good enough for us. You also get a free landline phone connection with it. No problem for the past 3+ months. Recently I terminated Tata-Photon which we had as a backup. There are higher speed available if you shell out more rupees.

Same here. been with them for over 4 years. There have been glitches. When you phone them, they say with in 2 days but the guy shows up within few hours. Not too many. Business is not dependent on this so no hassle. Serves me real nice.

Pazham,

Currently, I am in Chennai. For couple of weeks I am working from India to US office..
We have Airtel unlimited plan with speed of 512Kbps...

I am not seeing any issues in doing remote desktop to my US PC through VPN.. I have been online 24 hours. Haven't seen any dropped connection for the past 10 days..

Below is the speedtest.net results, I just did..

You can do the speedtest.net test to see how much real speed you are getting with BSNL..

pazham,

We've had Airtel at home for close to 2 years now. Installation was prompt. No issues with working from home with 512k (unlimited). We pay around Rs.1600/month, but that includes charges for our land line which is through Airtel as well. We've occasionally had wireless connectivity issues when both of our laptops are in use simultaneously, but that seems to have gone away now.

We had a fairly persistent connectivity issue a month or two back. Response was prompt. A technician showed up at noon after we'd called Airtel the previous evening. He replaced my original modem (at no cost to me) and things were good again.

Also, one of my cousins has Airtel at his home, and he had a similarly prompt customer service response to a connectivity issue.

I also got an SMS a few weeks back saying that we'd been upgraded to the 1Mbps plan at no extra charge. However, we were more than satisfied with what we had originally, so the extra speed doesn't matter much.

Good on them, however, for an unprompted, free of charge upgrade. A clear addition to the goodwill that they'd already earned through their customer service.

We have had BSNL combo plan for several years - no issues.

Recently, we upgraded to BB Home Combo ULF 1100 plan - I am getting around 1.7 Mbps download speed which works well for us with several parallel users including a Vonage VoIP. Costs Rs.1100/- per month.

pazham - For past 3 years, I have two lines with Airtel. I have both my landline and a separate braodband with Airtel. Great customer service, no issues whatsoever.

Landline plan - I earlier had the 799 plan but later downgraded to 549 plan as I dont use landline much now.

Broadband plan - I use the 1299 UNLIMITED plan which gives me 512 Mbps from morning to eve and after 6PM switches to 1Mbps. (reason being my hubby needs it esp after 7PM to interact with US office).
But no issues when he works from home in daytime as well.

When we moved to Velachery, Airtel service made sure it was available right from day 1.
