Post by Mumbai_2009 »

Have you taken any fun trip in and around mumbai lately or intend to do? What fun things we Mumbaiites do on weekends or otherwise. Any exhibitions/Yoga classes/langauge classes/cooking classes/dancing classes/NGOs you are part of or attend?
Please share so others can know/ or can plan the similar thing.

I thought Mumbaikars went to Marine Drive to romance and Chowpatty to eat Bhel-Puri.
Well that would be enough for me, if I can find some one to romance.

You can start by romancing the sea? I am sure you must be missing it very much being in Noida.

Marine drive/Chowpatty are old location now....;-)

one of my fav thing to do in Mumbai is to walk aimlessly in the fort area. Somehow I always land up walking all the way to the Gateway of India. I like the old feeling of the place/ its stone buildings. Seems very grandeur. There is this eatery behind Taj Mahal Hotel, wellknown for kebabs - Bade Miyan. Getting a place to seat is difficult if you happen to be there in the late evenings/nights. Try it if you haven't earlier. Tandorri chicken/Kheema/rumali rotis = awesome. http://wcities.com/mumbai/restaurants/poi-bade-miyan-320221.html

I'm trying to figure this out also. Everyone seems to just talk about going to the mall now. Would love to get inputs from folks.

Last weekend went to gateway - crowded beyond imagination and high police presence. Took a 30 minute ferry ride in the rain.

Did you get on the island? I heard the island is powered by PVs. I need to check that out. Also there is a gharapuri festival I wanted to go to, not sure when it is, but worth a visit, so I have heard

Few months ago, Dh and I visited an ancient Shiv Mandir @ Ambernath (12th century old). Its of Hemadpanthi style. Has intricate carvings and is made entirely of stone (basalt stone?). not much is written about the temple. The inside column are intricately dsigned with carvings of celestial gods and goddesses.
One has to climb down 10-15 steps (steep) to actually enter the small shiv mandir. The temple is very poorly kept. there is a river waldhuni that flows next to it which looks more like a nallah. with this rate of expanding/uncheck civilisation, the temple won't last more centuries than what it has lasted.

Feels very sorry after seeing the plight of this wonderfully built temple.

We used to do the same. Get down at CST and walk all the way to Gateway and keep wandering in Fort area .... Bade Miyan is great too... That was 10 years ago though :-)

I would take a different route, CST to Flora Fountain and then take a right turn towards the sea shore. On the way you would pass the street side book vendors (not sure if they still occupy the footpaths) which can take up hours of your time if you are a book lover.

But I am in the area I would certainly eat at one of the places

Famous Parsi Restaurant (Dhansak)
Punjabi Moti Halwai near fountain (famous for Samosa and Lassi),
Kandeel Restaurant
Mocambo Cafe (Chicken Biryani)
A parsi Dairy (sells yummy ice-creams)
Cafe Mondegar (late afternoon / evening) if walking towards Gateway.

Or walk the other way towards dhobi taloe / Girgaum (Kayani's or Tambe's). Do I miss Amachi mumbai?

Have Fun.
