Pathetic emergency medical care in India
Pathetic emergency medical care in India
This is a rant (not against the doctors, but against the bureaucrats). Many (most ?) ambulances are just transport vehicles, with no life support facilities. Traffic does not yield to emergency vehicles (at least in bangalore). It is just disheartening. See eg. http://vikas-gupta.in/2009/09/11/aishvarya-is-dead-because-of-lack-of-medical-facilities-in-jnu-campus/

Its true that in India many of Ambulances are just normal vehicles painted white with red cross on front and Ambulance return in reverse. But look at the other side, without them more people would die on the road.
What we can do? Start educating people to not to block way of an ambulance and it will solve many problems. I have seen many car owners who do not let ambulance go ahead of them or do not know they should be stopping their vehicle rather than speeding ahead of them.
The next step would be to fund for ambulances. Remind you ambulance service is not free even in many developed countries and you have to pay for some of their services.
