Hi,
I have to invest Rs.30000 in the mutual funds to cover all my future expenses. If I have 30 lakhs and I get 30000 as interest, I can cover my investment. My question is:
What are the mutual funds, bonds that I can invest my 30 lakhs to get a minimum of Rs.30,000 per month? Anyone has done this please advice.
Thanks
Ravi V

You are talking of 12% post tax returns. that too guaranteed returns. I am sorry to say this, but you are living in past. This was possible in India in 1980s.. not anymore....

Many of the Diversified Equity Funds gave returns around 18-20% per annum on long term basis. Take an example of HDFC Top 200 or HDFC Equity fund and you would understand the returns. However entry point is the key in equity based MFs. Go through the SIP route to balance the volatilities for an year or so and there won't be any issue to generate 30K per month. Another advantage with MF equity is any returns after a year are tax free.

OP's question and your reply are two separate animals.....
OP has 30 lakhs cash on hand. He wants to put that money in a fund, bond, stock, FD, or whatever.. With that investment, he wants to have 30,000 per month starting next month. Each and every month, for the rest of his life...
Where are you advicing him to put his money to match above criteria?

Thank you Krivan. I am investing in HDFC Top 200 and HDFC Equity fund for the past 4 months and can understand what you say. As gwldaddu said I was looking for a fixed option that I can get a monthly income. Is there a MF that we can invest and they send us monthly income?

I'm also researching on this topic now, there are Monthly Income Plans, heard about a few - HDFC MIP Long Term, HSBC MIP Regular, Birla Sun Life MIP - probably you can google up or check with the bank and learn more. Post back here what you find :) will be useful for me too.

OP,
Unitech Company Deposit offers 12% for 3 years deposit. This is the closest you can get for 12% target return.
But the quality of the CD is not rated by credit rating agencies as high grade.

OP,
Tough man. I am in a similar boat. Rates have gone up a little now - 7.5% in FD. Equity is your best bet but no guarantees there. You can try Templeton/Reliance debt funds which MIGHT give you around 8-10%. Note that if u want 30k/month, that is 3.6L/yr. You will also pay some taxes on that interest.

Is this money already in rupees, or do you have its equivalent in USD in the US?
(Rs.30 lakhs is about 60K USD and Rs.30000 is 800 USD)
If these funds are in the USA, achievng your target of 800 USD per month is a piece of cake.
