Hi,
Are there any actuaries in this board? I am close to my ASA ( getting it within next two months) and have 3+ years of experience in investment acturial roles (ALM, stochastic asset cash flow projection etc, now doing variable annuity hedging). Prior to that I had 2 years of software development experience (in TCS-India) and about 2 years business analyst experience (CTS-onsite and India). I am also a PGDM from IIM Indore.
My plan is to relocate to India by 3Q of 2012. I am trying to find someone with first hand knowledge of actuarial job market in India for new associate/fellow level.
Any help will be appreciated.

Actuaries are in very short supply.
At one stage, I was asked to help set-up an Actuarial firm in India for outsorcing by americans.
Could not get any actuary senior enough to be even slightly interested.

OP
I am not an Actuary but i work with a lot of Actuaries and their databases in my profession. They are a rare breed and also a wierd breed. You shd pick some experience working with a P&C or Life (depending on what yr interests are) and try to talk to some of the Private Companies in India.
In India, Actuaries are bound by governmental rates ( state controlled rates) for Life , not sure of how CPP rates work. You shd be able to make huge $$$ here with the skillset you have and once you are the chief actuary, call me for Consulting:-)
I am sure you are aware that there are less than 5000 actuaries in the whole of USA.
Insurance thrives a lot in USA. It exists in other countries. That is the difference.

Th
Thanks for the replies guys. Actuaries are indeed very weird and it looks like they are rare too.
So far I have worked mainly in the investment side of life companies and some financial reporting stuff. I am aware that actuarial job market is very different in India and it might not be as exciting as here. Still on the long run I see myself settling in India and that’s why I want to move out of US after getting my fellowship (which is kind of a big deal in actuarial world). If everything goes as per plan (it rarely happens) I’ll be done by mid of 2012 and do my R2I around mid to end of 2012.
