I always wondered why do I miss India so much. Why do I want to go back after living in US for more than 10 years. I have every physical comfort in the US . India has so many problems like popluation, corruption, pollution and for god sake it is 3rd world country Why do I want to go back and live in that mess but I do think about it everyday. Why?
Is it becuse India is my home and US is my hotel? I can't stay in my hotel for so long. I need to go back and live in home no matter how poor and dirty it may be...

if you believe in Hinduism then it does say that as one ages one wants to get back to one's roots....kind of like moving along a circle and eventually wanting to end up at the same spot from where one started.

I just came back from India yesterday after a 3 week vacation.
I kept asking myself asking the same question that you posted above.
A simple explanation may be. Your comfortable life in US is similar to Fish living in fish tank and all the perils and disadvantages of life in India is similar to Fish living in a Ocean (despite having to deal with all adversaries like sharks etc)
Now you tell me, would the fish prefer to live in a fish tank or Ocean. My take is Most, if not everyone, would think Fish would prefer to live in it's natural habitat of Ocean. The same thing goes for our desire to return to India despite being very comfortable here.

I am sorry but Ii am not going to read all of Hindu scriptures to find a reference point for you... its something i have been told by my father as an interpretation from the Bhagwad Gita and I strongly believe in.
I should probably rephrase the above as my opinion.
