Banana Republic/Gap/Old Navy Shopping from India

Post by VWbuggy78 »

Gap recently launched an option to shop for your clothes from India. You can also shop for shoes from Pipelime. These are not like the fake Amazon electronics which is fulfilled by a local seller. The Gap thing seems real. You can get anything sold on the US and get it in India.

Now there is no reason to kow tow to the junk that we get in LifeStyle, Color Plus or Stoppers Shop.

The shipping is reasonable - ranges from $60 - $100 depending on the weight. And there is a duty of 30%.

If you buy $500 worth of stuff, you would be paying about $150 in duties, may be $75 in shipping.

Has anyone tried this yet?

No offence but why would anyone want to buy GAP paying so much duty and shipping on top of it when they are not even worth it in US for the prices they sell.

You should try Shoppers Stop. :) Next to Neeru's, that's my favorite shop. Though only for Indian wear. The "western" wear at the above shops does suck.

Even the clothes that don't have the GAP logo? :)

Makes sense for American cloth companies. Buy clothes for pennies from Bangladesh/China. Put a stamp and sell it in India for top $s. Even the transportation cost to take clothes to US is saved.

Clearance would make them more attractive. Btw which retail outlet today is not on sale?

if it was that easy then their net margins wont be JUST 8-9%.

Many a times you see 60% off Sale, not sure how they manage it. But I thought (or assume) they have huge margines.

Of course net margins will be low after executive salaries, advt cost and operational expenses.
