World Cup Cricket 2011

Post by Sid »

There are boys, and then there are Men.

The competition to separate them is almost upon us. The Mega Cricketing Event has finally come back to the Indian Subcontinent after a gap of 15 years! That was also the last time, when someone else, apart from Australia, won the cup. While Aussies no longer look that invincible, its anybody's guess as to who will take the cup this time.

The Indian side will have the home advantage, but millions of belligerent fans also means tremendous pressure. The team is already suffering from injuries. "God" is currently down with hamstring issues, and the burden of expectations has on a number of occasions proved too heavy for the Indian team to bear. Would it be different this time?

We have a Public Poll above. Please pick the team that you think will win this tournament (Be ready to face the wrath  if you pick anything else than India :)))

Here are the group divisions, locations and schedule of matches.

Group A with Australia, NZ, Pak and SL looks weak while Group B with Eng, Ind, SA and WI is heavy. Not the right balance of teams in the 2 groups. Also the schedule doesn't favor India very much as they get to play tough teams in the 1st 2 matches. Other teams get a breather by playing lesser opponents first.

Well... in the last world cup, India played Bangladesh in its first match. And Bangladesh gave a humiliating defeat to India. So that trick didn't work ;) Though, again India's first match is with Bangladesh this time as well.

Btw, 3 out of first 4 matches of India are with what I'm calling as Minnows...

Yes, it has a 19.99/month package called "Willow Cricket".
If you don't want the 2 year contract from Dish Network, then willow.tv has a Live online streaming package for $129.

My Recommendation: Buy the $129 package, only after seeing the result of the India-Bangladesh opening match :o

I already have Dish so do you think I can add Willow for few months and then cancel it? Not sure if willow is going to show all the world cup matches. I believe willow monthly package is not going to show world cup matches.

I don't know. I've never had Dish TV, and I'm OFF-THE-GRID for last 6 months :)

Imagine all the economic loss to the advertisers, tourism industries and Satta Bazars :) I think that was also partially a reason for this darn recession...
Something tells me that India will reach the finals (or rather, it'd be India vs Pakistan - after all the world needs some stimulus). No no... I'm not doubting the capability of our heroes... but with all the corruption threads going on, my mind is just getting some ideas... you see :)

For that you need India/pak in semi final and then India in final with SA or SL. That will bring in more money.
