Life in India after R2I in 2007

Post by saisree »

All,
It?s been while following this forum. It?s almost 4 years back to India. Most of my friends have left back to US or planning in near future. I?m one among them can?t wait to head back to USA.
Life in India is full of corruption, work place with politics no work ethics. So called real estate builders are sharks and cheat in terms of quality of construction, never hand over property on time. Corruption is part of life and face it every day. Like local road transport (conductor) will never give ticket if traveling adjacent stop, if requested you?re abused. Goons have taken over contracts for delivering milk, new paper, etc for large properties (complexes). They deliver milk and new paper at their will cannot question them as they?re related to local goon who normally turns out to be elected leader.
While driving on the road need to be scared of auto drivers they can come and hit with fault on their end. Check out CWG how the govt. has handled shame on govt.
Trader price if they see you arriving over car vs if walk in. Cheating with weights / weighing machine.
At work place politics is no different to politics you see in India full of greed & envy. No basic office manners speaking loudly and people speaking on speaker phone with no concern about employees sitting in next to them. HR is pathetic nothing has changed they feel as if they?re god gifted and having attitude issues.
Time is of no value in India. Never on time in terms of services at home or work lame excuse just 5 mins away.
It?s the same you got to have MONEY or MUSLE POWER to live your way in India.
If you plan to come back to India set your expectation ....

Whats new? All these things existed since I don't know when. They were there a decade ago and will be decades from now. 4 - 5 or 6 years doesn't really matter.
Potential R2Iers set your expectation correct..

I agree with your post. India is all of it. However, there must be some positives. Is there anything that you liked in India?

India's corruption is just a part of cost of living....and ignore it. If we start getting worked up on levels of corruption in India our lives will becomemiserable...no matter where on Earth you live.

Yes, there are rackets that monopolize milk and newspaper supplies and yes, they are operating with permissions from your local elected leaders.

Well, obviously, people wanted it that way. Come election times, these suppliers will become canvassers who will 'explain' us about 'secularism', 'Hindu Rashtra', 'Aam Aadmi', 'Swabhiman' etc and people will vote for the 'national issues' and get milk suppliers in return.

Corruption in India cannot be a reason for anybody to R2A. Yes, it causes some heartburn but you must keep some money ear-marked for these people.

We willingly and meekly subject ourselves to interrogation of US customs but get angry when our co-workers behave badly. Turn a blind eye towards such things and you will be happy...just like we turn blind eye to all 6 foot tall sexy girls in micro skirts in the US and pretend that we are not interested.

Seriously, he is mn_op, our resident simile expert. He can be as funny as a baloon, as gentle as a lamb, or as hairy as an ape. :)

Welcome to R2IClub, or is it welcome back? :)

OP:

Your problem might be - you lived in San Diego. Once you live here you get spoilt :) .

Once I flew business class, after that I never liked flying in the coach.

I will never drive one of those nice cars for the same reason.
