R2I - The ultimate Countdown

Post by somebody »

Another diary of an aspiring R2i ...

It has been 10 long years...Came as a bachelor.. married..2 kids..GCs for all four. ..etc..etc...

Every night when going to bed - at least for the past few years - I will be longing to return to India - knowing that it is around the corner - but never had the courage to face it. Every visit to India, I was dodging the questions by relatives and friends about when I was about to toe back. The answer was always the same - " Very Soon". Everytime I said that, my consciousness asked me 'Did you mean it?' . Of course, I quickly dismissed that as 'I could always deal with it later'. I always told myself and the family that when we get the right opportunity, we are going back.

After lots of analysis in the recent few months , I have come to the conclusion (Realization) that the opportunity is never going to get to me. I need to get to it. I had to create my own opportunity... By reading a lot of threads in this site I got a good taste of the diversified experience about r2i.

So one fine day - I pulled the plug .... As somebody said in these forums....You dont need a solid/pressing reason to return to India. If I may add...Once you have a solid /pressing reason - Youa re already too late!

So the contdown will end by March 2011.. More details to follow....

Good Start, very passionate words. I would like to hear about your opportunity. People like me who cannot retire and afraid of not having to work or could loose job due to respective factors - it would be great to hear if there are alternatives.

My best to you.

Work wise - everything is settled as I was successful in arranging for an internal transer. Now that we have exactly 2 months, - I am looking into sale of things here, shipping, Schooling , etc...etc
It is going to be fun filled year with nothing but excitement.. new place and new life and new set up...

I was talking to my some friends and acquaintances in the past 2 days and mentioned about my move back to India. To my surprise and disappointment, I got some responses like - "Oh no..Why? What happened?" , " Oh it is ok! Everything wil be fine", etc. I had to take some time to explain that I am excited about this and I am working on making this happen. But the attitude was definitely disappointing....Has this occured to any of you who have already R2ied??? How did you tackle such people who always think going out of US is a bad thing?

One nice thing is that allour family members in India are excited about us coming back..

Going through this myself - I am thinking many NRIs in US have theinternal desire to go back to India. But the resistance to Change is higher than the change itself. It is just that with all the constraints (for a settled family), they have difficulties in deciding the move than actually making the move. Eventually, they make some excuses to LIA..Your thoughts???

somebody - the responses are along expected lines. People, especially those who have never lived in the US, cannot believe you are leaving the US for India. Even some of the folks who are in the US have similar thoughts. As long as everyone is clear on what makes them happy, life is good.

Interesting thought. I tend to agree. Most of the times we are bending with the forces, job, career prospects, house, spouse, kids, grandkids, ailments, parents, mortgage are the things that keep pulling us in certain direction.

One does need to be very lucky without any pressing need to truly enjoy the freedom of choice.

All the best.
