Confused Indian in Britain heading for India

Post by jas »

This forum is a breath of fresh air. I'm not sure who started this and how long back, but would like to thank and congratulate on the success and initiative taken to assist fellow people travelling in the same boat. Thank you.

Hello fellow R2Ian's. I, too, have decided to move back after deciding for umpteenth time. My journey started approximately four and half years back when I moved to England to do my Masters. Journey has been amazing, but I feel the time has come to move back.

I'm a single lad, mid 20's and moving back for me now, when I am alone would be much more easy and simple than with a spouse or kid. I have read quite a few threads under dilemma section and to some extent, it makes sense to move back before it is too late. It is a difficult decision, nevertheless.

My decision to move back has been influenced by various factors.
a) Parents - I have been living here all by myself and though I am surrounded by friends and work colleagues, I do not have my family here. Parents are the reason I am what I am and where I am. I don't think few extra pounds can justify me leaving them. I plan to get married in a year or so and would definitely want my parents to watch their grandkid grow as a toddler. Nothing and I can definitely say nothing is more painful for grandparents to stay away from their grandkids. My colleagues always talk about their kids and I wouldn't want my parents to miss those small but precious moments.

b) Work - I want to change my field and it is not simple just to switch jobs due to visa restrictions. Moving back gives me ample opportunities to and possibly start my own thing too.

c) Mumbai - My hometown.

D) India - My country.

Just in case people are wondering on my citizenship status - I have 3 more years for Permanent residency followed by 6 - 12 months to obtain a British passport and have been told plenty of times by friends, colleagues, etc to get a British nationality. I don't think I'd ever trade my passport for any other nationality. That Emblem on my blue passport looks so much better

Have lived in India for 22 years, and I'm sure I can live for many more ..
India is amazing. India is beautiful.

Only instance when citizenship of first world country can come handy is when life turns ugly while you are still younger. You have that option of going back to the first world country....where even working at low end jobs can see you thru the life beutifully.

If you have ambitions and skills, I guess, citizenship doesn't really matter.

Thank you all.

Mn_Op - I disagree with first para. Life will always keep on throwing things and one can't run always. I feel its more about adjusting rather than trying to change others behaviour. Few of my friends who have gone back have gelled quite well and are very happy. Although there are cases where some still feel grass is greener.

Oasis138 - Thank you. I work in IT sales, intend to move to media and entertainment. More creative and interesting work.

sid_Earth - Thanks, buddy. Will keep diary updated.

Impressed... clear thoughts...but the confidence your generation has is great. I have been observing this in quite a few youngsters and nothing but good can come out of your attitude for yourself and the country you choose. All the best!

Cheers LotsofRokda. Well, I've given it a shot in the UK and things aren't working as I'd like them to. I feel I'm in the wrong vertical and visa restrictions won't allow me to swtich job, unless I get some company to sponsor me. As much as I'm an optimist, it is pretty difficult to get a visa switched due to new rules and regulations and the companies simply avoid it. Once back, I'm pretty sure there will be days when I'll be cursing myself, but then have to adjust in every environment as change is inevitable and compromises are part and parcel of life.

29th July is the final date. woohoo! serving notice period. Home office will be informed about this a week prior to 29th and visa will be revoked around 25 - 30th august. 3 years and 11 months in the company, and time has flown.

Pretty excited about Mumbai for number of reasons including spending plenty of time with family and friends and to top it up, Ganesh Chaturthi after I reach. New job and new environment, hustle bustle of mumbai. Can't wait.
