why India?

Post by vk2205 »

I wanted to R2i because of 3 reasons (1) Mother (2) cost of living in India

Cost of living is not more an issue given India is very expensive

Has anyone thought of a different place to retire which as

1. reasonable Indian population
2. great schools (so kids can say go to Stanford for undergrad later)
3. Reasonably cheap
4. Good hospitals (so I dont have to worry when I am old)

am i dreaming or is this a possibility?

If (1) Mother is the first reason for R2I, then none of the other factors should matter, isn't it?
Btw, what's the third reason?

In US - Chicago, Orlando, Dallas probably fit the bill as far as "cheap" are concerned. Outside US, Canada/UK might fit the bill (I don't have enough info about either).
Also, New Zealand has a large Indian population, is very reasonable in terms of expenses, awe-mazing beauty. I'm sure hospitals and schools would be nice over there.

vk2205;394574 (2) cost of living in India

Not an attempt to deflect the intent of this thread, but cost of living is still quite very cheap in India, relative to savings and US dollar. Since my move, except for rental, all my other expenses are under control.

Getting back to your thread, have you considered RTP in North Carolina? Another choice would be Charlotte, again in NC.

I think its a given, by default, in the US that hospitals almost everywhere are good.

If you consider India is expensive , NZ is no where near Cheap

NZ Is a awsome place for Tourist , But if you want to retire and live there then it may not be the place .. Very Quite but beautiful though

Point 2. above seem to be in conflict with the intention of retiring ? Am I reading this incorrect ? Are you looking to living after retirement to end ? Or in general living the rest of life in the same place ?

I can speak for singapore hospitals, FANTASTIC, as good as the american hospitals, but it is a semi paid system, you might have to shell out something for healthcare atleast initially until you get their medicare benefits.

Coming back the original question.

WHY INDIA?

Because you take a man out of India, but not the indian out of a man.(old siyarams ad).

Indian population - looks like where ever there are opportunities, Indians are present in fairly large numbers.

cost of living in the south american countries is very low. Brazil seems to be flourishing based on all reports you read. But no idea about education standards there.

If it is just retirement, there are many options, but you throw in the education etc. then you have to make sure it is an english speaking country (if the kids want to come back to stanford).

What is your third (secret?) reason?
