We need a thread to talk about BS Yeddyurappa. His name pops up in many threads off late.

This thread is talk about the good, bad and ugly things about this former Chief Minister of Karnataka.

It is OK to compare him to other Chief Ministers of India, current or ex, if you want to.

Bring them on!

I confess I do not know much about the politicians of desh. However, this CM has a neck that is longer than the neck of Ms. Jayalalitha, CM of TN.

I probably didn't get the humor or hidden message of the 'longer neck' part.. anyways..

There's one thing regarding courts that Yeddyurappa and Jayalalithaa are at the opposing ends of extremity.

Yeddyurappa is probably the first CM of India who couldn't get an anticipatory bail for a private complaint in the court history of India. That's why he went to jail, not because he was convicted.

Jayalalithaa is probably the CM who has managed the most number of adjournments from a court of law, in the history of India. I learnt yesterday that she has managed a whopping 150 adjournments of her corruption case! One Hundred and Fifty adjournments!! Ammaaa...

So a CM who couldn't get anticipatory bail, that too in a private complaint v/s a CM who has probably created a Guinness record in dragging a court case :)

^^^So, this CM is not able to get good lawyers, at least as good as those that Jayalalitha was able to get ? or... this CM's case (allegations etc..) was different enough so that he was unable to get what Jayalalitha's lawyers were able to get ?

reg. previous post: When I saw the picture of the CM and invitations to compare with another CM, that was the only comparison I could make. No humor implied in that. Although I had admired Ammma for how far she could see ( that "vision" thing...) with such a non-existent neck.

Yes; please... I thought these posts are very useful to learn about what is going on in the desi political scene.
When people are reconciled to having the (comparative) best as their political leaders, it is good to know who is less corrupt.

"He would certainly have gotten the anticipatory bail, if he had completed the vaastu revamp of this temple in time". Is what his ex-advisors would be telling him.

What a waste. A douche, a delusional douche bag - is what I think of him. Even if he was less corrupt compared to Amma (I doubt he is), my disregard for this douche would not change. He needs advisors to pick the right advisors, how can he lead anything?

Interested in learning more? Here I go with the first installment.

I have been searching for one Chief Minister in India, who doesn't have a major corruption blot via serious, well documented allegations or court cases/FIRs. Modi seems to be the one with least corruption allegation.

Rest are all down the drain.. Here's a sample of current and ex-CMs. I have provided one news link for each case, so that you can read further to learn on the accusations.
• KA: Yeddyurappa: Land de-notification and illegal mining accusations by Lokayukta.
  • KA: HD Kumaraswamy: Ditto..
  • KA: SM Krishna: Telgi stamp paper corruption and illegal mining accusations.
  • HR: Bhupinder Hooda: Land de-notification allegation, that too to Sonia family.
  • MH: Prithviraj Chauhan: Mulayam Singh's illegal asset protection accusation.
  • MH: Ashok Chavan: Adarsh apartment land scam accusation.
  • DL: Sheila Dikshit: The ONLY CM with Lokyukta, CAG and a Committee (Shunglu) accusations. Triple whammy!
  • RJ: Ashok Gehlot: Land scam favoring family (Ajmer).
  • AP: Kiran K Reddy: Land scam accusations.
  • KL: Oomen Chandy: Palm oil import corruption accusation.
  • TN: Karunanidhi: Need a 10 page essay to list all accusations :)
  • TN: Jayalalithaa: Disproportionate assets accusation. Was grilled with over 600 questions.
  • GO: Digambar Kamat: Illegal mining scam accusation by PAC.
  • MP: Digvijay Singh: Undue benefit scam involving a mall in Indore.
  • UP: Mayawati : Disproportionate Asset accusation.
I can keep listing.. If I get to Bihar and Jammu & Kashmir, it might take separate threads, just for them :)

Its very hard to find a single sitting or ex-CM in India who doesn't have a major corruption scam ink on his/her bio.

In Karnataka, it makes more news like in Yeddyurappa case & sees more action, mainly because the state has India's best Lokayukta police and court system. I don't know of any other state where a Lokayukta system is strong enough to send an ex-CM to prison. Most states don't even have a Lokayukta today, and even if they have, an ordinary minister, like in Delhi, pooh-poohs a Lokayukta.

Doesn't mean corruption is any less in Karnataka, but the system has higher bar, compared to rest of India, mainly due to that strong Lokayukta system. When regular court system and a parallel court sytem both hunt for the corrupt, logically more would get revealed.

No wonder, she is called 'Amma' :-)
