Should I Cancel Singapore PR or is there a way to Hold on to it

Iam R2I'ing only for my parents sake who are old and alone. I have been working overseas for 5 years in Singapore and US. I roughly know the process of cancelling the Singapore PR.

I got a job in India and I have asked them to deposit money in Singpaore and contribute to my CPF but I will be working in India. They have agreed to it.

But I want to know if this is the correct approach to hold on to my PR or is it better for me to cancel and get rid of the PR status. I see PR as an assert and I dont wish to cancel it and kind of using my brain to avoid cancelling it.

I would like to know if anyone from Singapore did something similar, please clarify my query or am I in the wrong track. Please HELP.

Unless you own a HDB or other situation that needs you to maintain PR, i am wondering whats the real benefit of remotely maintaining it. i plan to to R2I in 2012 and i am planning to let my PR lapse naturally. if you plan to take a job again in singapore getting an EP is not difficult. my 2 cents.

If the PR is cancelled and if OP wants to work again in Singapore, does he have to deposit the CPF money back to get EP.

After doing all these ,there is no guarantee that they will renew your PR.

When is your REP expiring?You can enter SG before it expires.

I plan to keep the CPF and it will still earn interest.
i do not know for sure. but i think logically it will be only when he gets his PR approved 2nd time, not for EP. EP does not have the cpf complications.

We moved to Europe from Singapore. When we applied for renewal of PR, they did not renew it. Now we have the option of withdrawing our CPF since our PR status is cancelled. I dont see any positives in leaving the CPF in Singapore with their low interest rates.

Guys is there a way to get OCI (Overseas citizen of India) or can I talk to ICA while i renew, will ICA consider?

If I were to cancel PR, can I do it in SG Embassy in India....will I get all the CPF money back ie cancelling in SG or India does not matter right?

You need to be a citizen of another country (other than a few like Pakistan, SL, Bangladesh) before you can apply for OCI - that means you would need to have a foreign passport.

IMO getting a Singapore PR is not as torturous a process as the US GC. You could eaily find employement there on EP and once you complete 5-6 months on EP, you could again apply for PR.

This is a little off-topic...but I am curious what drives Indians in Singapore to R2I. Understand the reason for the OP, but would like to hear from others in Singapore thinking about R2I. For Indians in western countries, the common concerns are raising kids in western culture, far away from family, feeling out of place etc. Given Singapore's large Indian population and proximity to India, what are the reasons for Indians in Singapore to R2I?
