Vel's vidyashram chennai

Post by dummydummy »

We(wife and me) are looking for school admission in/around Nanganallur/Madipakkam in Chennai for our kids for next academic year. We heard good word-of-mouth reviews about Vel's vidhyashram (the reviews in this forum are dated though) and was about to check it out today. Pat came this news in today's paper:

To be fair to the school, this could be a one-off incident. However, i keep wondering if the teachers/care-takers are trained enough to manage the toddlers in private schools like this which have cropped up/grown in recent years. I am now wary of sending my 3 and 5-yr old to this school.

Any latest reviews or inputs? Can anyone recommend few other good CBSE schools?

It boils down to are teachers and caregivers for such young children required to know CPR. Probably not.

I would treat it as a one-off incident, and if anything, the school is going to be extra vigilant at least in this aspect. And as a result of the recent bad publicity, to make up for it, they might be more receptive to parents' concerns and suggestions in general too.

When comparing schools, I wouldn't treat this incident as a negative for this school. But, if two schools are almost equally appealing overall, I wouldn't pick this school.

Just for the record, I only read the quoted news article and am not familiar with this school or any schools in Chennai.

You mean "Heimlich maneuver" or back slaps, and after that, probably CPR (if the patient becomes unconscious)?

It is such a basic maneuver that everyone should know. I once had to do it for my kid, when he was around 3. He choked on a hard candy, while at a doctor's office. Funnily, the folks there were in panic mode ("where is the doctor?!?") while I went about trying out whatever I have learned watching some videos. It didn't take couple of thrusts before the candy went flying.

The school must be held liable. It is sad for the parents to have lost a kid as a result of negligence on the part of the school.

No. You are referring to steps to take in such incidents. I was referring to what teacher and caregivers can be required to know. And that job requirement is often termed as CPR or child CPR. "CPR certification" often means CPR-Heimlich-Maneuver or CPR-First-Aid certification.
