Men don't cry...

Post by suba »

Men are not supposed to cry but that doesn't seem to work. We often see men cry. Not just when something tragic like death happens, but even on other occasions. And we see that in Indian movies too. At least in South Indian movies I have seen men crying like babies!

On the other hand, is not crying helpful in relieving tension? Probably that could be the reason why women live longer! They cry for anything, relieve the tension and move on. Back in desh, I have seen women who are complete strangers stepping into a house where a family is mourning a death and cry as if someone in their family has died (this is a unique phenomenon that might happen only in India). I really don't know what makes these women join an uninvited party and go through all the emotions! Whereas most men (who still follow the 'men don't cry' rule), just because they're supposed to be strong, act straight-faced, don't vent out their emotions and end up visiting emergency rooms often.:emcrook:

If I feel like crying, I wouldn't hold my emotions. Yet, I probably wouldn't show it in tears easily.

Nothing wrong with a man crying. A wife should know better, when her man is ill. Don't the men become babies (though it is more self-serving, to get an excuse to not do the dishes.)? :) Men may not cry, but they are cry babies! :)

living longer because Women cry more than Men may be one reason,
but from my own observation woman involve in kids day to day chores and even when they grow up women tend to keep close relation with them,
if you see parents coming to US TO help kids when kids have there own kids/babies , the women gets more involved and mostly men dwindling thumbs and getting bored..
keep oneself busy is also staying away form tension to live longer, that's how it appears to me.
Men become too detached and get tensed up...exceptions are always there.
the above is only my observation and just sharing what I felt or saw

Women not only cry themselves but they can make grown men weep - try ordering bainghan bhartha next time without checking.

I can tell you some jokes or lengthy posts do bring me to tears.

Jokes aside, we are wired differently. Men do weep, perhaps in private.

Men is kind of a pillar of the family,.. and hence he have to have a strong persona,...... no matter what ! ,……and hence he can cry only inside,… ( aansoo pi jaate hai ) ….. And if he finds a space, he would cry but ONLY before his elders,.. say his elder brothers, uncles, father,.. etc.

But, generally he avoids crying in front of wife and children,.. just to keep them strong and lending them a shoulder, and thus filling the courage and vigor to minors and dependants, no matter what !

In American movies, we see very often, that women goes in the bathroom and sits on floor in some lonely corner and cries all alone, whole heartedly,
just to, not to let it know, to her younger kids, sisters, older mother … etc.

We have seen Shilpa Shetty crying alone in lonely corners in Big Brother’s house, a lot of times !

Sometimes, while crying whole-heartedly with no barrier for sound or tears ( especially when a near and dear most family member is lost ) is must,… and it relieves the inner burning fumes,
the inner heat needs no suppression and ....which must come out,…n' hence which is quite necessary sometimes, to make a strong person cry,
even if he is not willing to, upon death of his certain members.

In the maternity hospitals, nurses always make the newly born baby to cry, so that its lungs and other organs start working and thus giving him/her a little exercise too.

Few noticeable movies, in this kind of understandings and situations were,…..like,…

AmarPrem,… when Kaka,… shows tears in the end,…. After quoting,.. Pushpa I hate tears, thro out,..
Watch this for 3 min.

Ameetji also bring tears in Mohaabbtein and K3G in the end scenes.

In movie Shakti and Saudagar,… Dilip K. also cries in the end,..

The best movie I ever saw in this regard was, Dimple’s Rudali,….. a dynamite strong lady performance,....... nature pours her the entire world's sorrows and still this brave woman don't show any tears,.. Yess,.. Dimpy, who stays strong during da whole movie, but in the end cries whole heartedly with full blown scale of 'rudan' finally, and hence is called Rudaali.

Women generally cries due to their 'so soft hearts' full of emotion sand feelings ( perhaps that’s why all nurses we have are women )
and also many a times - be aware ;) for dramabaazi, false crocodile tears, social imitation, and even for the plain showmanship !

Again, it depends on a person and this crying phenomenon varies from person to person.

Who said men don't cry ?

I get emotional when watching Indian melodramas on TV, be it SMJ or KBC or any other program.

They add some emotional factor in every program. I can't watch any emotional films.

Last time I had switch off the TV while watching Baghban (by Amitabh and Hema Malini)
if you want to cry , you can watch that movie.

I cried when Indian team won the world cup,

I cry when the plane touches the ground on my mother land when visiting India after long time..I cry when I am lonely and some childhood memory crops up...I cry when I remember my struggle days ..I cry when I achieve something...I cry when..(the list is endless.) I cry when I am alone.

What is your experience and what' is your take?

I don't have a problem with men not crying. I have a problem when they don't want to talk- leading to behaviour that is puzzling and extremely maddening. Sorry for the rant and thanks for listening.

My son was born with TOF/ Pulmonary atresia- a relatively serious heart defect. He did well ( after a roller coaster ride). lately , he hadn't been himself and after being in and out of hospitals, the cardiologist decides on a cardiac cath to check the pressures. The husband is " unavailable" again ! We were dropped off at 7 am on the day of the procedure. " will be back at 6 PM". The nurse said she saw him in the lobby at 11 am and 1 pm again. So, she told him where we were post cath. He apparently told her " yes, I know- thanks" - but never showed upstairs.

11 yrs ago, when our son had his surgery- (well two actually)- the farhtest he got to the child was the hospital lobby and the third floor lounge. He'd drop at 6 am, pick me up at 11 PM. Would wake me up at 3 am - so I could speak to my son's nurse. This would be our only conversation everyday-

" How's He doing"?
silence ( I didn't tell him that he needed another chest tube, had serious arrythmias and needed cardioversion twice and that they are thinking of opening him up again)
" IS he in pain/"
" No- he is sedated and on a narcotic drip"
" How long will they keep him?"
" Don't know".
" Have you eaten?" ( very imp question, eh?)
" yes. have you?"

One night, his older brother called him ( his parents were no more), since he hadn't called home for months ( he hadn't told his family) and he broke down. Don't know if it did him any good. But, definitely helped me be a little less mad.
