Hi Folks,

2013 will be my lucky (I hope) year after all... We've always wanted to go back, but this year I got restless. First came the fallback plan - I secured admission into IIMA's 1 year MBA program, PGPX. Course starts April 2013, so the latest we'd leave the US would be Jan/Feb 2013. So that gives me 2 months to find a job (fingers crossed). Why have a plan B before plan A you ask? Well, unlike most others, I come from a traditional portfolio management/private equity background - jobs that are tough to transfer into in India. "Oasis138" gave me some hope so I still have my heart set on finding a relevant role in India. Any advice the readers might have for me would be highly appreciated.

We have moved continents a few times (NYC -> London -> Detroit) so we have some experience with the process, but not the costs - they were always borne by the company. And we have a lot of stuff over the past few years which we intend to ship. That would include all the furniture in our 2-bed besides the couches (powered recliners would unfortunately not work in India). From oasis's experience, I'd reach out to unirelo, besides the companies I have worked with in the past for my international moves.

This will be tough since our move is a little complicated... US -> Ahmedabad + Delhi -> whereever I find a job after MBA. Hence expenses are also going to be thru the roof. Any help from folks recently r2ied would be highly appreciated... especially looking back at your move, what would you have done differently?

Q for US returned folks - what have you done with your IRAs?

Will keep updating as I progress - the next few months should be action packed!

Cheers!

I got a job in finance in india. So one more data point for you. But I am curious to know why powered recliners would not work in india ? Cant we have a simple step down converters and the power the recliners through it just like the TV ?

Hey chicago2i2011

Well, they would work with the converters, but I personally dont like using them. I've made a conscious effort to get only dual voltage gadgets (TV, home theater, bluray, etc) to avoid the same. I have another reason though - houses in India are generally smaller, and a couch can break or break the aesthetics of a room (or so my wife says :) ). I won the first round and bought recliners for our living room even though she didnt want them, so now she gets to choose whatever she wants in India.

Am curious though - are you using converters for the kitchen gadgets like a food processor? How has your experience been with them considering they are usually of higher wattage?

Will PM you separately on the job issue. Thanks!
