Travel without OCI card?

Post by B_Krishnakumar »

Hi all,
I searched thru the forums and couldn't get an answer to this one.

I recently lost my OCI card while traveling back from the US. The immigration folks at Bangalore let me through without any issue since I had the old US passport with the U visa sticker as well as a photocopy of the OCI card.

Now am I getting ready for another travel. If I apply for duplicate OCI, I will not be able to make that trip (considering it takes around 30 days).
My question is, is the OCI card essential for traveling abroad? Is it possible to travel carrying only the current US passport and the old US passport which has the U visa sticker?

The airlines (both when checking in in Bangalore as well as at the US airport) usually check if I have the OCI. Also my next travel is to China which may have more stringent checks.
My question is a general one: is the U visa sticker sufficient for entry and exit? (At least in the short term while I manage to get a duplicate OCI).

I dont know Chinese rules, but again OCI is indian "visa". Why would China ask for OCI. OCI is to be shown on travel to India, no?

You may want to check on respective web sites.

China will only need relevant Visa for Travel to China.
If you are not sure while traveling to China if you need OCI for any reason, why not call Chinese Consulate
