Rates and Fees are high in india for NRIs

Why people tell more prices to NRIs in India. They raise almost 20-30% prices compare to local residents. My Brother came to USA one year back and he went to india for some work, he said he was told more prices by real estate persons and property lawyers and others. He has not been in usa at least 1 year but he was considered as big shot NRI. I think these people at least ask NRI person about how long he/she been in usa.

LOL, he must have faked a lot :)

Those first year NRIs show off the most, later they downgrade after some realization

in Hyd we call them
"nri bakra" , we make them buy expensive real estate, we make them pay for cousins daughters marriages, we use them as a de facto atm for all practical purposes.

Once I met a south african school teacher. His great grandpa was a Tamilian from Tirunelveli district. He and his wife were taking the Tamil Nadu Tourism Corporations tour of the southern temples. His wife also had an indian ancestry, but from Bihar. They spoke with the cutest accent I've ever heard. They also looked so cute together.

Anyhow, they asked me "What is NRI? and why people call us that ?". I explained to them that NRI is loaded with connotations, preconceived ideas and stereotypes. Sort of like being a colored, zulu, or dutch(Africaans), or white.
