Most preferred location in the US?

If you got a do over and could start all over again in the US, which would be your preferred destination to settle in the US & why?
Let's say the person's profession is IT and a combined household income of $175000+. Kids are younger (elementary school).
This discussion is only intended for US cities, not other countries.
A friend of ours is looking to relocate to US and is asking for advice, hence thought of this forum!

I am not sure which is the best place to settle but I can tell you NOT to settle in NJ and NY because of the weather and other factor to consider not to settle in NJ is it is the most boring place to live. I heard San Diego is very good place to settle and one main reason is the weather and also I heard you have good Indian population their. But for me Florida is the place to settle and that is where I am planning on retiring.

2. Austin - lower cost of living, mild winters, scorching heat, but a cool city.
3. Charlotte - mild weather, lower cost of living

But if I had a do-over in 94, I would move to Bay area and buy a house or two!

Come on Sir, I think you are in south. Central to NYC stretch is nothing but Dubai now days. (In context of Indian Population)

I've never lived in NJ, but I've heard negative things from many people. Ranging from things like it's too ghetto to weather issues, etc.
Do you think these assessments are accurate?

Depends on lifestyle.

We moved to Bay Area in 2008 with barely $100K annual income and an extremely sick child. It turned out to be OK.

Bay Area does gives you a lot more career choices and advancements even in a non-IT field. Fortunately, companies still need to hire administrative staff (HR, Sales, Operations and Finance) and pay them well to keep them.

Having lived in North-East, South and now California; for us Bay Area wins hands down.

Partly true, but it depends upon perspective. Couple of my friends moved there from west coast to have Mumbai like lifestyle.
