Purchased Agricultural Land after becoming citizen

Post by junkidentity »

Hello Members.

I need little help with my agricultural land purchase in Andhra Pradesh after becoming US citizen. Recently one of my friend told that I should not have purchased agri land even as an NRI.

Is my registration void? What happens if someone goes to my seller and makes the papers. I am really worried now.

Can you please help.

Thank you!

The President of India can help you with an executive special dispensation.

yes, it's not allowed. There may be some regularization procedures -- you might have to consult an Indian CPA for that. It might even be possible to get the land 'zoning' changed (probably require some hefty bribes).

Practically, it's unlikely to be much of an issue as long as you maintain physical possession. But you might want to sell it or gift it to parents (with the understanding that it'd be in their wills so it'd come back to you).

Don't mention about it and sell it to someone.
Get all the money before the registration :))

Thank you okonomi. I have sent few emails to contact president of India but never got a response :)

I have also consulted couple of lawyers and a CA but could not find any more info than on this forum. I am worried because one of my relative knows about it and he could cause a problem as we don't have good terms with him.

I am trying to gift it to parents and get it back through inheritance. If my seller sells it to someone else then my sale deed/registration may go void.

Has anyone faced this kind of situation and I would like to know the solution for it.

Thank you!
