Is R2i getting easier ??

Post by Archana935 »

This is just a general question.Few observations and throughhear say..Is R2i getting much easier?

1)Most of the NRI crowd either end up in Bangalore, delhi, mumbai, hyd, pune or chennai which are all either metros or cosmopolitan cities. So there is not much of a culture shock as those places do have western influence.

2)KIDS...few years back, one just cannot imagine settling back in India with children aged above max 7 or 8. Nowadays, even few of my neighbors moved back one in 8th grade and the other after 12th.I got an opportunity to meet the boy who had come for a vacation to America. He is now doing his medical in India. He said life is good and fun except for few things regarding education. He had no complaints otherwise. This was very important coz kids are a major reason who many parents take a backseat in R2i plans.

3)Nuclear families everywhere.Kids are also very independent/competent back in India.Parents also want their privacy, enjoy life. medical facilities seem good back in India.

4)Kids get lot of exposure.Only thing that bothers me is safety of girls. Not that America is very safe, somehow being a woman and being a mom to a girl child,I feel safer here and I feel more in control.Yes,teen years will be there and probably they might go all the way BUT it should be an induvidual's choice and NOT forced.I do understand all the leering and women harassment has calmed down a lot over the years but still some worry. However, things seem to be getting so much better..

5) PRIVACY and BOUNDARIES..I had the good luck to stay in bangalore in my cousin sister's home for sometime two years back and the neighbors just have a hi-bye relationship.Noone interfers like those days and the fun part was I saw lot of people in the park downstairs with kids..Apart from that all are back to their life and business.

6)After kids, entire life seems to be circling around them.Even if my friends call me out,I go but feel very bored.same old restaurants..weekends are boring.I hate potlucks, same people, same talks..Back in India,we see a variety.so many restaurants, activities etc.

7)ACTIVITIES...I see marathons, hiking and trekking clubs, zumba, yoga, fitness centers ,beach resorts everywhere.Only thing that bothers me in India is the commute to reach there and easier in America with a car at my disposal.I really do not think drivers, autowalas or crossing roads is any easier. However, what I mean to say is 10 years back the only activity around was going to the movies and beach.

8)MOVIES..I am a big movie buff and it really annoys me to watch everything online.I love the theatres back in India which is like a five star hotel :) plus the food..wow..

9)JOB..well,I honestly cannot comment on this.some say lot of office politics while others have it good.this is one area which I do not have much idea about as I have never worked in India.

The above were not there some years back. This has nothing to do with my r2i.Just jotting down few observations.I think it r2i seems easier these days especially with the kids.Since India is improving, there is still hope left for potential r2i ers..

I genuinely believe folks who are happy with R2I are not in this forum. This forum is mostly visited by folks who are not happy with R2I or those who are considering R2I but can't make a decision.

Not true.

There are quite a few I know - dbs, rajradio, vapasi, KirKS, MyRoots and yours truly who are happy with their R2I.

Simple logic : You go to a restaurant to have food, if the food/service is bad you ask for the Feedback form to complain about it. If all's well, you just come back after paying the bill. Most successful r2i's are like that. Once they have found a job, schooling for their kids, they slowly move away from the forum.

R2I takes a toll on you and once r2ied , most of them stop posting here.

And then there are others too. Those who'd R2I a lot, every year, or even more than once a year. And those who quit India, just so they can R2I.

Then there are those whose location aint known( woebegone )..change their avatars frequently with some cute Jap chick, posts are obscure ( intentionally ), never R2Id but offers interesting perspectives on R2I and subtly make fun of R2Id and potential R2Iers...

Oops. Apologies :)

I see your ID only on the Kannada Songs thread these days and not much in other threads - must be because of that.
