I am very bad at negotiating the pay with my employer

Post by snandepu »

I am having 8 Years Experience in J2EE Technologies.

I am very bad at negotiating the pay with my employer, the problem is I don't know exact market hourly rate for the kind of experience I am having.

I am working for XXX Company on W2 without benefits as a consultant, can any one help me out, how much I need to bargain hourly rate.

My work location is in Orange County, CA.

Thanks for your help

salary.com is not of much help (saying from experience). They have very generic job titles and it's often hard to know which title does your job fall under.

My best advice is to try looking for new jobs and get offers - that will give you the true picture of what you're worth. If you still want to stick to your current job - take your best offer letter to your current boss and show him what you are worth.
Whoever said that in the USA to get a good raise you have to get a new job was probably a genius.
