UPS for router/modem

Post by swastir »

Hello,
We were looking for a UPS for our modem, router and laptop in order to ensure uninterrupted internet connection for work reasons. We recently r2ied to B'lore. Have Airtel broadband. The apt complex has a backup generator, But it takes a few seconds to kick in :p which is enough to lose the internet connection. So was looking for a UPS just for the modem and router. Any suggestions/advice would be very very welcome.
TIA.

APC is a good UPS brand to buy. BE500Y-IN or BE650Y-IN (500 VA and 650 VA). Try apc.com/in and they have a good selector tool based on your connecting needs. If you are power savvy and have technical questions, customer support(presales) is pretty good and can answer all your questions. 500 VA should cost 2-2.5k and 650VA should cost 3.2-3.5k. On full load, the back up may last for 10-15 minutes.

UPS for router/modem

I bought a UPS made by HP (went for the name) for around Rs 1500. It lasts well over an hour for just the modem. I have it on auto-shutdown after 30 minutes when the desktop is also on. APC is a known brand from the US, but the prices were a bit much for me for the ratings - compared to HP's.
