R2I dilemma - Requesting suggestions

Post by desiR2I »

I need your advise on our R2I Plans.
I know its a lot of questions but your advise is greatly appreciated.

Here is our current position:
Me and my wife (No Kids) are planning to R2I in the next few weeks/ months, I am a U.S. Citizen and my wife is a GC holder (by marriage). My wife works in IT and her company is interested (she asked for it) in transferring her to Pune in the next few weeks/ months. I have a consulting business in the U.S. which I will support from India and expand:
Questions
1) Citizenship: My wife has spent 31 months as a GC holder and is expected to file her Citizenship paperwork in October (can file for citizenship after 33 months as GCholder).
1A) Is it ok for her to travel here to the U.S. in October to file her paperwork and come to US periodically for her citizenship paperwork (fingerprinting etc).
1b) Should she push her company to pay her US $ salary for citizenship purpose to prove her intent on long-term US residence - does it even matter.
1C) Would we be ok if we sold our house and on the N400 form showed a rental house which is owned by a friend.

2) Housing:
2A) We will be in Pune for atleast 6-12 months would we able to get short term leases and how much would it be.
2B) Should we buy a house in Pune or rent as I do want to invest in Real estate once we get to India.

3) Salaries:
3A) My wife is a Manager for a big 5 consulting company what kind of salary should she be expecting (Her relocation was requested by her and not by the company)

I am not sure if you can apply for naturalization just after living in US for 33 months.
I have recently applied after completing 5yrs and the application clearly mentioned that you can apply 90 days before completing 5 years.
And I knew some friends who waited 5 years after GC, in order to complete this waiting period and to get married and to make the spouse's immigration process easy.
Am I missing something?

I think what the OP mentioned is correct. You can apply early (the waiting period is short) if you have received a GC on the basis of marriage to a USC.

I am very confident (100% sure) the requirement for Citizenship after marriage is 18 months of stay in 36 months. My question is has anyone gone to india for an extended time (3-4 months) after filing n400 or even their whole 5 year requirement.

desiR2I;42024... My question is has anyone gone to india for an extended time (3-4 months) after filing n400 or even their whole 5 year requirement.[/quote]

I regularly made 3+ month long trips in the 5yr req. My longest was 5-1/2 months, however, I did not make any trips after filing N400. I don't suppose a trip for valid reasons such as business trips etc. would cause any grief.

At the time of my interview I was asked about was my most recent overseas visit and the length, which happened to be a 3-1/2 mth long visit. The IO remarked about the length but did not delve much on it...

Hope this helps
