I am almost certain that you don't have to file Indian Income tax return. Our Social Security payment is $1900 pm which is deposited in SBI NY Branch. We also have pension income from my husband's job in US. We don't file any taxes in India as the income generated from these 2 sources, is in the US. We however, still file taxes in the US and will have to do that for the rest of our lives.
This is what we do. I may be wrong and will wait to see the responses of Babus, Desi, Venkat, Mukherji..............

Thanks Krishnamukhi. I know we (USC with resident status in India) need to file Indian Income tax for global income, irrespective of where we keep our earnings (Cayman Island?). However as per DTAA, SS and public pensions are not taxable by GOI. So if one has only these two as income, filing Indian tax return is just an exercise. This is the reason I asked for the Forum Help and help from experts. Also in the first quarter of 2011-2012 Indian Tax Year I have two real-estate closings involving capital gains. I do know, I need to file Indian tax return at that time and will have to disclose SS income on ITR-2 form. Thats one of the reason of asking for form details.
