US Visitor Health Insurance for parents with and without pre-existing condition

Post by desihometown »

HI,

I'm planning to invite my parents over next year. This will be their 3rd time.

But one thing that is different thsi time is that my dad had angioplasty done a few months ago for multiple artery blockages. HE is also taking blood thinning medications (for life I supposse).

My question is, is there any US based visitor insurance that covers pre-existing conditions ?

In other words if he some health problems related to his heart (blockage again/heart attack etc.), will any visitor insurance cover it ?

I dont mind paying a high premium. Any inputs/experiences will be helpful.

Thanks a lot

Try this, though it doesn't cover pre-existing condition, it would certainly address your concern (riders coverage)

Hope this helps

You get both comprehensive coverage and fixed coverage for visitors.

Most traveller's insurance are fixed coverage of 50k of 100k (total) with specific limit for various expenses like Emergency room, Doctors fees, hospital fees and such..

The comprehensive coverage will cover pre-existing medical condition. Obviously the premium is higher and the deductible is high too. I paid almost 1K for 6 months of coverage for a person above 65 years since i wanted peace of mind.

Again No insurance will cover pre-existing condition . The comprehensize covarage is better than the fixed coverage but you have to pay more and it is worth ( although it still wont cover the pre-ex) .

Just curious to know if anyone made any claims against health insurance for visiting parents...If so, can someone recommend which coverage/insurance co. worked best for them...

I bought insurance previously thru kvrao.org, fortunately never had to file claims...

Thx!

all insurance cos. are fine until you have to file a claim. then they show their true colors. I feel, if the parent is not in perfect health, rather than spend the money on their tkts and insurance, it's better spend some more to visit them in india instead. anyway they get bored after a month's US stay. and there's always the chance that long flights will exacerbate their condition.

Some State Governments offer health insurance under what they term 'risk pools'. Under HIPAA (health portability act) which is a federal mandate, anybody who has had continuous health coverage for the previous 18 months should be offered coverage irrespective of pre-existing conditions and without any waiting period. Risk pools are channels for application of HIPAA. Of course, premiums are dearer and there may be a catch with participants' status (citizen, green card, etc).

It is definitely worth looking into in the State you are domiciled.

===>desipardesi: can you please explain me which insurance and how much you paid. My parents are visiting michigan during winter(which is gonna be damn cold)..both are above 60s. My mom has diabetes.
I am really concerned about their medical insurance. Glad to come across a post like this. As you well said, money will not be a constraint for me as long as i get the peace of mind.
Please share your inputs as which insurance and how n where i should buy.
thanks.
