Creating & Maintaining web site

Post by aspiring »

All,

I volunteered to create and maintain a web-site for a non-profit organization -- Wondering if there is any recommendation on some free tools that any one might have used...Just want to keep it simple...

TIA,

Do they have a registered domain name and a web host? If not then the first step is to get that (it's not free, but it's cheap).

Start with http://order.1and1.com/

I have used http://www.bravenet.com/ and it is very good. If your NGO runs on a shoe string budget then I wouldn't go for a domain name and web hosting....unless you forsee a decent ROI from this web-site. These guys will give you something like xyz.bravenet.com which should be just fine.

Thanks for the responses....

They already have a domain name and host..Not sure how much they are paying for this service....Someone already did some work for them but I may have to revamp the site etc..and maintain it going forward

In that case, you have to first figure out what tools they used to create this web-site. If you are comfortable with it, just use it for a short run. In a long run you will have to try using .NET. But if you want to keep it really simple then I suggest ASP. Hope this helps.
