Moving to BA from bangalore

Back to this forum after long time since R2I (It is true that visit to this forum gets reduced as the time increases in R2I)

Bit of background:
Lived in Europe for about ~9 years before R2I in 2010. Did not opt for any citizenship as I was clear on not taking it.
Married and 2 kids(6 & 4 yrs)
Happy with R2I, decent income, Wife also into IT and she is in early phases of career as she took long break.

So with that I can say everything is set in India even though we did not had big savings from abroad when we moved back to India, now we are happy with what we have/make etc.

I have an option of moving to BA(around San Jose/Sunnyvale area) with internal company transfer and I am worried whether it is good choice looking at cost of living, schools in BA, moving at later age with 2 kids etc. Wife wants to move to U.S looking at quality of life.

So could people please give views/suggest as to

1. How is it like for 2+2 family moving to Bay area in terms of cost
2. What is the income required for a decent living ($120K - $150K range is good enough?)
3. What is it like in terms daycare, taking care of kids if both work?
4. What about savings (I read from this forum that not much in terms of savings etc. with cost of accommodation being high)

you will not save much if single spouse is working in the bay area unless your a VP/Director . Ask for an internal transfer to Texas etc where cost of living is lower.

We live in the Dallas area. Even though personally I do not have the experience of living in the Bay area, we had one of our friends who relocated from Dallas to Bay area a year ago. They have 2 kids in elementary school with the wife who does not work. About a few weeks ago I got a call from the husband that they are planning to move back to the Dallas area. The reason was that they are not able to save much with the high cost of living with one salary. I see lots of people moving from California to the Dallas area where there is good job market. For ex: Toyota is relocating their head quarters from CA to the Dallas area moving almost 3,000 jobs to this area. State farm insurance is also growing. All this robust growth is driving up the real estate prices in this area by a whole lot. People move in thinking they can buy a huge Texas sized house at a low price but they get a sticker shock looking at the cost of the new homes especially in the established and good school districts in this area.
