IT sector pay hikes likely to taper out

BANGALORE: The great Indian IT dream job has probably lost its cult status. In line with the depressed market conditions and fears of business contraction, wage hikes in IT jobs are expected to be lukewarm, industry sources say.

Wage hikes will be intresting to see. Already service companies have stopped staffing for the bench and their bench norms have changed from 25 % to 5 %.

that is one thing that scares me when I think of R2I, IT industry in India is not like it is in US, there are hardly any clients, those clients dont always have annual budgets to spend on IT etc, also this bleak outlook is going to stay at least for a year or two if not more,

In a company I know, people are pissed off b'coz they are only getting 12-13% hike this year instead of the 20-30% hikes they got in recent years.

What will happen when they only get 2-3% hikes for several years like a lot of companies in the US in the recent times?

Also, the Indian market hasn't seen a down turn. There will be a lot of pain when a real down turn kick in and real lay offs happen.
