Godse, Savarkar and Gandhi

Post by Chicago Desi »

Desi,

Thank you for your latest and elaborate response.

I agree I should have been more specific about Godse in my response. I waxed philoshophically in that response and did not tackle that issue. So let me put this to rest. What Godse did was wrong, and when I made those statements, I did not say "don't know" because he was a Hindu. I would also have had no issues had be been gunned down before he shot Gandhi when he was a clear, present and imminent danger to Gandhi. Because of his actions, that makes Godse a terrorist. If Savarkar was involved in this conspiracy, then that makes him a terrorist too.

My comment of "Good riddance" was to those idiots who were killed in a shootout. I am happy they were killed because first, it shows they are guilty and second, it saved the court time and the tax payers a lot of money. As you are aware, the courts very recently convicted some of those involved in the 1992 Bombay blasts and even then some of the masterminds remain elusive.

Looks like you have applied my comment of "Good riddance" to all terrorists. Thats not my argument. I do believe in due process, but at the same time I want it to be effective and expedient, both words are alien to the Indian law and order system.

I apologize for making many unsubstantiated statements about you. And I am not going to justify this by giving any reasons. Your positions on these topics seem reasonable to me (based on your responses, also i am aware that what is reasonable to me does not matter or should not matter to you). The reason I am saying that is because in the earlier post, I had called you biased. From your responses, I can see I was wrong.

I do feel that in any nation, there has to be a zero tolerance policy for anti-national activities, esp from its own citizens. And I find that somehow, this issue continues to fester without proper treatment. This has become part of India's DNA and I find this very very frustrating.
