Google's hindi, kannada, tamil editors...easy to use!

Post by soomdy »

We needed Google to come up with a tool to type text in Indian language fonts. Of course there are innumerable editors around and my experience, after having tried some of the Hindi / Gujarati language editors has been pathetic, to put it mildly.
Try the editor at this link - http://www.google.com/transliterate/indic/Tamil
You can choose to edit in other languages like Hindi, Malayalam and Kannada. I found the editor extremely simple to use and I liked the option of the editor suggesting alternate words as it is possible that you cannot exactly transliterate the word in English. This makes the editor even more easy to use.
So go ahead and enjoy. Type away in the language of your choice the Google way.

MeraNaseebR2I;55084what is the use of this transliterator?

Dude. This thing rocks. Trust me.
It's not like a hindi/tamil/malyalam keyboard where you need months to get the hang of it - You can start right away. You can actually type the words phoenetically in English and it will convert to the other language - how cool is that! I love this! It's so intuitive.

It's hard to find a lot of practical use, but the technology behind this is simply terrific ....and that's just like Google. They'll do anything and everything that's cool and the world will find a use for it.

I don't need to dude. Coz that's not the point of this tool.

The point of this tool is not to translate between two languages - the point is to offer a quick and convenient translation from spoken to written langauge without the need to learn a new keyboard.

Say if gshankar wants to distribute flyers in Tamil or write an article in Tamil, he does not need to spend hours trying to figure out a Tamil keyboard, painstakingly typing out characters one at a time. He can simply say the sentences in his mind and phoenetically type them out in English and the tool
will write it out in Tamil for him.

Plus the web based application makes it available to everyone around the world, at the click of a mouse. No font installation, no keyboard mapping installation required.
