I have to admit that the intention to put up the schools is good but the info is absolutely incomplete.
The list here is a good cut and paste Job with some schools put up twice.

Besides most of the schools here are not actually for an NRI to put the child into. How can one think of getting a child out of a school in NY , Dubai, or even Mauritius and put him in a Saint Lawrence in Mumbai:rolleyes: .
My two cents. Nothing Personal friend

Jijo,

Thanks for your comments.

The list was put up by a member in MSN and then copied over here by me. So, yes it is a cut and paste. We all as members can strengthen the information.

If you do have more up to date information to help members, please do post that. Also if you feel that a particular school is not suitable for NRIs, that information will be valuable to members. So please do post which schools are not suitable for NRIs and perhaps even the reasons.

To the extent you can copy that list, add, subtract, comment, that can only help members.

Thanks for the feedback.

Much as i understand NRIs would like to go for schools offering ICSE , IGCSE or IB curricullums.

CBSE- is what they have all over india in central schools.

SSC - is a local curricullum--not to be taken lightly though.Very good.

We will be in Mumbai by mid-April. We spent 2 weeks in Jan, trying to meet as many schools as possible. Jan is not the best time, but didn't have much control over the timing.

Most of the schools we were interested in didn't seem to have any openings for First grade (for my daughter). But we managed to get her admitted to Billabong High in Santacruz.

Some of you might have heard about recent controversies, esp, the breakaway by what is now known as Vibgyor.

Wanted to get some dope from folks on experiences with Billabong. I know they have franchises around the country. So, any gyan will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Billabong High, was better known as kangaroo kids, is run by a lady called Leena Asher, an Australian National of Gujarati background, i think.. It boasts of Whos who (mostly filmy) children being in their school as students. Now what you need to ask Leena is the size of the class. much as i understand they dont have many students . Lot of pomp and show. Much as i know (please counter check)they are not affiliated to ICSE, IGCSE or IB. They say it is in process but trust me to get these certifications/affiliations is no Joke . YOU NEED INFRASTRUCTURE.plase ask them if they have "aptly" Qualified staff, ECCE or BEd and how many of them do they have. I know parents who have taken their kids out of the school.
They have had a big show down with Rustom kerawala ( now known as vibgyor) nothing much to talk about , just that Mr Kerawala threw them out .LOL.
Since you appear to be living in santacruz area i suggest if you can afford put your child in Dhirubhai International school which wud roughly cost you something like 80k as tution fees a little more than what you would pay to Billabong and a MUCH MUCH better deal.
You can try out Ecole Mondial in Juhu, very good .
Else you can go to Poddar and join him into an IB/ICSE/IGCSE course.
The above are my personal take on this. but i still maintain that its still better than most of the regular school. For all i know you may be happy with what you get.:)

Appreciate your feedback. We took the Billabong admission as a place holder. Otherwise wifey would have refused to make the R2I move!!

They seem to have the affiliation in place. A friend who sends her kids to Kangaroo seems to have done some research and was comfortable enroling her own kid at Billabong. Google searches indicate that the Billabong franchise has been well accepted in other parts of the country.

As for alternatives....... we have submitted an application at Dhirubhai Ambani school. One constraint we are operating under is that we are applying for First standard. And most schools don't have any openings. If it was for LKG or UKG, there are more options.

I will be in Mumbai in a couple of weeks and plan to start calling around. Will update the group.

Thanks.
