R2I From Singapore ? Question on Provident Fund Savings (CPF) withdrawal

Post by SGNRI »

Hi RRK

I posted a simliar query in another thread. Didnt see this thread before posting.
http://www.r2iclubforums.com/forums/showthread.php/29500-Tax-on-Foreign-Provident-fund-after-RNOR-status-lapses-to-Resident-status

Please advise where can I find information that states CPF amount is not taxable when the status is Resident. (not RNOR). Did you know anyone who withdrawn CPF after he becomes a Resident.

Thanks a lot

CPF is your money, there is no tax on it but the interest earned on it is taxable when you become resident Indian.

I withdrew my CPF money and send it to my NRE account. There was no tax but I pay tax to US govt on the interest that I earn.

Thanks Chakraan for confirming that we do not need to pay tax to Indian authorities on the foreign CPF amount that we get into India thru NRE account after our status turns as Resident.
