Movies thread on the MSN R2IClub - Favorite Movies
Let's use this thread to discuss movie reviews, upcoming releases etc.
Many a times we watch movies w/o paying any attention to the finer aspects of movie making such as cinematography, choreography, dialogues, locales, etc.
This thread will be informative and fun if we critic, write reviews or an opinion about a movie while mentioning what we liked, disliked or simply what caught our attention.
If there is a spoiler that we need to bring to discussion, I would suggest using the "invisible ink" (Just color the fonts of the text in the spoiler -white) and alert the readers about the spoiler. Readers can choose to read the spoiler by selecting the spoiler part by left clicking the mouse and selecting the text.
Enjoy

Watched 'Pancho Villa' recently. I had heard the name but had no clue about what or who it was and hence borrowed the title.
Pancho Villa was a revolutionary leader/general who fought a guerilla war against the Mexican Govt. in the early 20th century. By Indian context - a Naxalite? He is referred to as a Mexican Robin Hood in the movie. Compasionate and cruel, he has been portrayed as an enigmatic man.
Antonio Bandares is very good as Pancho Villa. The movie has a good share of tongue-in-cheek comedy. Bandares excels in portraying Villa as a man to be hated, feared, liked and respected at the same time.
This is a 2003 yr movie by HBO
Likely you'll like it, if you like off-beat movies

Sometime ago went back and saw (once again) the 80s tamil classic 'Mudhal Mariyadhai' after a long time. This time it was on a dvd. It was so good to hear vintage ilaiyaraja after being immersed in rehman-anumalik etc. simple songs, great melodies and nice lyrics like...
'green parrot has touched, willful parrot has accepted'...
'I am admiring and standing, I am keeping bomb in my eyes'...
'O mother, had the kite flew in the heart'
'that moon is the one I caught in my hands'
and the classic
'Odoriferous shrub smell, is the friendship of this girl'
:D :D :D
All I did was turn on the close caption on the DVD. What a treat it was to watch the translation of the lyrics!
If this is what the oscar judges are seeing on the during the screening of Indian nominations, soon they will create a category funniest lyrics and we will keep winning!

Little Miss Sunshine:
Repeating the recommendation of Desi_by_nature from MSN forum
http://groups.msn.com/r2iclub/liaissues.msnw?action=get_message&ID_Message=10269&ShowDelete=0&ID_CLast=164071&CDir=-1
Its about a dysfunctional family with one member on suicide watch and other a follower of nietzsche and other an over optimistic aspiring self help guru taking a road trip for the young girl's participation in a child beauty pageant and their adventures on the trip.
I wouldnt characterize it as the funniest movie, buts its kinda corky and is off beat funny. But definitely a heart warming movie.
If you like off beat ones, you would love this one.

May have already been mentioned ...
Khosla ka Ghosla
Good movie. Finally a bollywood movie with a story line. Funny in parts. Good acting all over with Anupam Kher and Boman Irani. Keeps you engaged and there are no forced song breaks [only songs in the background].

Dhoom 2
If, like, idea is to make a crappy movie, why, like, make an expensive one? One can, like, achieve the same effect with less money
dhoom dhoom
If, like, idea is to make a kids movie, why, like, highlight item numbers and bikini romps?
dhoom dhoom
If, like, idea is to make a crappy kids movie...ok, no arguments there.
Sorry, Aish, skimpy miniskirts may distract us for a while, but they still cannot mask the bad acting and atrocious dialogue delivery.
Now, Bips is a different story.
That covers all the characters in the movie worth mentioning (No prizes for guessing that I am a male)
Overall, this is one long teen music video wannabe made with middle aged actors, cliche music and juvenile english lyrics. Overdone with graphics, senseless bike chases and out of place explosions.
Did someone send this to Oscars too?

Suri, I agree. Dhoom2 is a C grade movie. A lot of money spent on a very very bad movie. I watched it in a multiplex during my India trip and it was a complete waste of my time and money (Rs. 160 per ticket). Worst of all is Aditya Chopra. He was so atrocious. And music was so loud, I was deaf for a few hours.

Dude, Dont know what expectations you had while watching this movie but if you had seen or heard dhoom, you probably know what to expect in 2. It is like many masala movies with mindless stunts and silly dialogues. But the reason dhooms (1&2) has done well in India is the different genre it is appealing to. The stunts and action sequences have been done differently and provides some relief to watching the same run-of-the-mill kinds. If you want movies that appeal to your inner senses, go watch Hotel Rwanda or Little Miss Sunshine.
