9 year (h)itch

Hey chicago2i2011 Well, they would work with the converters, but I personally dont like using them. I've made a conscious effort to get only dual voltage gadgets (TV, home theater, bluray, etc) to avoid the same. I have another reason though - houses in India are generally smaller, and a couch can ...

9 year (h)itch

Hi Folks, 2013 will be my lucky (I hope) year after all... We've always wanted to go back, but this year I got restless. First came the fallback plan - I secured admission into IIMA's 1 year MBA program, PGPX. Course starts April 2013, so the latest we'd leave the US would be Jan/Feb 2013. So that ...

Oasis138's Round trip Bengaluru-Chitown-Bengaluru

I would have to agree with oasis. The general attitude in India is that of bargaining and avoiding "middlemen" fees... I'm not saying its a good or bad thing, its just the practice. And because of that, brokers have to watch their backs, agencies have to charge you for their services before actually ...

Love the traffic rules. Will have to keep that in mind when we r2i.

Question for you and the other finance folks that have r2id - w.r.t. jobs, did you explore the consulting (PwC, BCG, etc) scene in India, or is that just more back-office work?

What is equivalent of Millionaire in India?

I think the equivalency depends on your definition of a millionaire. Is it simply someone who has $1MM in the back account? Then sure, do a direct conversion (Rs. 5.5cr). These days prices of clothes, food and rents in India are comparable (I'm comparing the 2 comparable cities I know - New Delhi ...

Oasis138's Round trip Bengaluru-Chitown-Bengaluru

Hi Oasis138, The details in your posts really help, thanks for the diary. With regards to jobs, my major worry is that folks in India focus more on education than on experience - and that might be a negative for me. I know you have only been there a few weeks, but what do you see being actually in ...
