I-131 Entry permit status : VISA / Greencard

Hmm... that sucks! The processing was very slow as is, the biometrics requirement will further slow it down. I guess USCIS wants to make sure that the same person who left the country is returning back -- but then they already have the fingerprints which they collected during LPR issuance. [QUOTE ...

I-131 Entry permit status : VISA / Greencard

I would rephrase it to say, "Being in India to take care of aging parents". Also, the reason is just for I-131, it has nothing to do with preserving your continuous residency. Please understand that maintaining the LPR and preserving the continuous residency for naturalization are two separate ...

I-131 Entry permit status : VISA / Greencard

Are you certain of the fingerprinting requirement for REP? AFAIK, the fingerprinting and interview requirements mentioned in the I-131 instructions are for Advance Parole and not for REP. Do you know of anyone who had to attend an interview or had their fingerprints taken for REP? [QUOTE ...

Yes, you should give your US addr for those 2 years on the N-400 application.
Thanks, r2i_asif. A follow up question... I noticed on the citizenship application that they ask "Residence Address for the last 5 years". So for example - if I am in India on REP for 2 years in the last ...

I-131 Entry permit status : VISA / Greencard

No, you will not get into any trouble because of your US addr on the application -- I had given a US addr on my application and collected my REP during my next visit to the US. Like I mentioned in my earlier response to Smita's query, it's a good idea to give a US addr if you intend to apply for US ...

I-131 Entry permit status : VISA / Greencard

Bisu, You will have to make a trip to the US once every 6 months and even then you will have to rely on the discretion of the immigration officer, at the port of entry, to be convinced -- looking at your travel pattern -- that you didn't intend to give up your Legal Permanent Residency (LPR). So ...

I-131 Entry permit status : VISA / Greencard

Smita, Yes, you should give a US addr as your "residence addr" if you intend to apply for US citizenship later. There are quite a few -- not so nice -- implications of being out of the country for over 6 months in terms of satisfying the "continuous residency" requirement during naturalization. I ...

buying lot of stuff in India, any of you managed to understand MRP, MOP ...etc..

OP, In B'lore, I have experienced that you get better discounts if you stay away from the "popular" shopping areas -- MG Road, Brigade Rd, Commercial St. and other such hotspots. Check out the stores like Girias (right next to Kaveri Theater), Vivek's etc in Sadashivnagar, Malleshwaram, Rajajinagar ...

Car in India, models, safety, insurance, etc : Automobile

DHT, I have used the quotes (sometimes a few hundred dollars lower) from www.carsdirect.com in the past to haggle with the dealers. As always, don't waste your time haggling with the salesman who shows you the car, takes you for the test drive etc. - he has no say in the final price that ...

Accessing social security administration

Re. Rudra's advice in #6, I wouldn't send SSN and other details in an insecure e-mail -- you don't want to compromise your identity.

As others from India are able to access the website, you would want to follow up with your ISP and ask them to unblock the access to the site.
